• Raspberry Pi?

Not sure how many tech fans there are on here, but I thought I'd check and see.

So, anyone out there ordered a Raspberry Pi (http://www.raspberrypi.org/) and are waiting anxiously for the backorder to clear? Anyone out there even heard of the unit?

If you hadn't heard, it's a credit card-sized computer, costs about $35 to purchase, and was primarily designed to teach kids how to program, get them interested in coding and tinkering, etc. No hard drive, runs Linux off of an SD card. That said, the enthusiast community was quick to pounce on a couple design features, namely HDMI output and 'BluRay quality' 1080p H.264 decoding. Consequently, there's been a heck of a lot of interest, and what seemed to be massive sales when it was first launched.

Am I the only one here who's ordered one?

I didn't order one, but I'm definitely interested. I played a bit with Arduino last year, and heard nothing but great news about the Raspberry Pi while it was being designed and developed. Hopefully, the manufacturing backlog will clear soon, and there will be plenty of stock for everyone to purchase one or two.

Considering their mistake with the ethernet connector and knowing from personal experience, that you just can not do a circuit board right from the first try. I'd wait at least a few months, so that the errors are found and corrected.

On the other hand - at least for this place, shipping will cost about the same, as the computer itself, so... not much point in buying it here.

And one more thing - the speed of SD cards is terrible, and nothing cripples a linux system more, than slow storage (and the lack of memory).

I am really surprised that there is no SATA onboard.
