Sorry if this question has already been answered elsewhere. But is it true that if you take depo provera for a long period of time, it can causes permanent hypogonadism?

I was wondering the same and very interested ....I had "kind of" included this question about DP and CA when asking multiple questions about other concerns and got no answer specifically about this myself. I personally

would like it to be permanent...

From what I know of any chemical castration (and since the people who know more aren't stepping in to say). It's my understanding that the longer you are on them, the harder it will be for the testes to restart themselves. It could be as little as 6 months, but more likely take a year or more. Also everyone is different and you could do it for 2 years and go off it and the body will restart the production.

Ceteris Paribus (all else being equal,) WolfPup is correct. Supposedly long term use will eventually shut them down, but when is one of those "your milage may vary" questions. I knew a M2F couple who stayed together after the husband transitioned, who conceived a child several long years after they assumed it was impossible. (plus she was still taking estrogen) (I won't address the obvious skeptical question) Another I knew tried transition for only a few months then changed his mind. The T levels never did (at least for the few years I knew him) return to normal and he had to inject it. Playing w/ hormones has a large degree of uncertainty involved. Don't play there unless you feel you really don't have any other choice.

Me too WhitestSand. The peace of not having constant sexual irritation is phenomenal to me. I find that

now i can concentrate on being caring and loving toward people (without feeling a loveless urge to just pounce on them and totally ravish them lol). Lust is a pain in the prostrate, and I'm so pleased it's finally settling down. But like wolf-pup was saying, how it could take 6 months to over a year or more for the hell-bags to get kick-started, that's still an extra 6 months to a year or so bonus peace, so I'm well pleased even with that much of a result.
