Where to start?

So I am a MTF transperson, been on hormones for about 6 months. My Dr. is slowly increasing my doses but I have heard that surgical castration is a lot more effective at knocking out the Testosterone than The Blockers. So I want to look into getting an orchiectomy but I have no idea where to start looking. I would tentatively like to do this over the Summer to avoid missing school. Does anyone have any advice? What Dr. you saw, the cost, experience. Thanks guys!

If you have your doctor prescribing hormone treatment then you are possibly further ahead than many others on this board.

My advice is 'don't rush things'. If you look through the postings, which I thoroughly recommend, you will find that the general consensus is that you should use hormone treatment for a fair while before taking the surgical route.

The other thing that you should take time to consider is, what is your eventual goal? Do you want to be fully trans-gendered with vaginaplasty, or would something less drastic be acceptable. A quick fix now may limit your options later.

You will probably receive all sorts of advice from others on this board, much of which may be of use. But, be careful. There is no way of telling if a responder is a fantasist attempting to indulge themselves at your expense.

Best Wishes

If you're clinically diagnosed as transgender then you'll have a lot of options. There's probably over a dozen doctors that specialize in SRS, and most urologists will perform orchiectomy with proper psychological letters. If for some reason that route is difficult or you're impatient, Dr. Arkoff (I believe he's in Atlanta?) is the only urologist in the US that regularly performs elective orchiectomy without psychological letters, and is the only legit doctor doing so for non-transgender. You can find information on a number of people who have had recent experiences with Dr. Arkoff on this board.
