varicocele complication

Post by transistor (imported) »

I have a moderate size varicocele on the left side of my scrotum that isn't painful, but it'd definitely not comfortable. Has anyone had a varicocele cause complications to an orchiectomy surgery? I had a urologist offer to fix the varicocele several years ago, but I didn't since it wasn't causing fertility issues or pain. Now I'm wondering if I'll need to get the varicocele fixed before doing anything else down there, or can that be taken care of at the same time?

Transistor, I too have, or had, an uncomfortable left varicocele, which was most painful about 12 years ago, and 'caused' my first and only attemp at self hemi-castration. I ended up in Casualty with my left ball and tubes hanging out. The female consultant whose SHOs put me together again advised lying down when varicocele became enlarged and uncomfortable towards evening. That's OK if you can take time out, but since then I have found that keeping my own testosterone as well as external sources of t'one down has greatly reduced varicocele swelling and discomfort. More recently I have begun cord ligation to kill my testes ( see thread Pinhole castration?), and to my surprise my varicocele has shrunk further and causes no discomfort anymore. A cutter might have problems with removing a testis plus dependent varicocele safely, but a competent surgeon would not... s/he would just have to tie off and cut the cord a little higher in the left scrotum than in the right. Hope this helps. Dodo1943

Varicoceles are in the blood vessels leading to the testicles. If you can feel the enlarged spot above or beside the testicle; then when the testicles is removed, the varicocele will be removed also [also depends upon removal method]. If you have a varicocele on the right testicle, you could have something serious; like a tumor, cancer, or other potentially major complication that should be investigated by your physician before-hand.

I have a spermatocele on my right testicle. Feel for your pain. Varicoceles can be relieved by external palpitation & supporters; spermatoceles can't. {My doctor suggested masturbation!}

You could try L-arginine to relax the blood vessels and improve blood-flow, and L-carnitine to improve sperm viability and to strengthen the walls of the blood vessels. Both usually found on the supplement aisles in many drug store sections of major stores like Wally-world. L-arginine has a known side-affect; it can cause erections.

Have you heard of the Gat Goren Method? Read this (http://www.pirion.co.il/index.php?optio ... =7&lang=en). It might be available in your area.

If you are trying to deal with constant pain, like from letting the 'boys' hang in boxers (or nothing); dress 'up' (pull the penis up and pull the nads up with the scrotum) - in a tight set of briefs or a compression support garment. Your testicles should be about where they would be if you 'tucked' tightly, in the inguinal canal-opening. When the veins are compressed, the pain signals go away for some reason.

And, you could ice your groin above the pelvic bone.

The pain I have is mostly just sensitivity of the mass of veins on the left side. It's always smaller in the morning and huge by the end of the day. I always wear tight undies since even a few minutes free-hanging scrotum causes some pain. I can easily tuck the right testicle up into the inguinal canal, but there's no way the left one is going up there because of all the veins and sensitivity. In the evenings, the mass of veins is almost twice as big as the testicle on that side, and something that large down there is pretty uncomfortable, especially when my kids jump on my lap or I sit down quickly and smash it, and I definitely can't ride a bike. I've had this problem for about 10 years, and it didn't cause any fertility issues, and my sperm counts were all normal as of a few years ago, which is why the doctors didn't feel the need to treat it. I'll either be getting an orchiectomy soon or starting anti-androgen medication, so either way hopefully I'll get some relief.
