Pee in Peace

Post by JesusA (imported) »

Something that shouldn’t ever be in question but, since it probably will be for a long while yet, an iPhone app that needs to be extended to the rest of the country.

An Exciting New iPhone App for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Folks! (http://thecsph.org/2012/01/an-exciting- ... ing-folks/)

Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes (http://www.plannedparenthood.org/ppsfl/)’ LGBT Health and Wellness Project, Out for Health (http://www.outforhealth.org/), is pleased to present their Pee in Peace (http://peeinpeace.org/) App! This app is designed to help transgender, gender non-conforming, and other individuals who do not readily fit into expected and conventional norms of gender presentation, easily locate single stall or gender neutral bathrooms in Ithaca, New York!

The idea for this app came about after a survey conducted by the San Francisco Human Rights Commission (http://www.sf-hrc.org/) found that nearly 50% of respondents reported having been harassed or assaulted in a public bathroom. Because of this, many transgender people avoid public bathrooms altogether and can develop health problems as a result. It has become Out for Health’s commitment to work toward removing the barriers to accessing safe bathrooms.

About the app:

I'm glad there are plans to expand the coverage area and hope that other groups promoting the rights of transgender individuals will get on board with this.

Excellent idea and they could expand it to dressing rooms and supportive stores. When I was working in retail this young man waited in my line to check-out. He was buying bras and panties. He said they were for his mother but they were a small size and the young man was slender built and mom was plus sized. I told him if I was on duty and he needed assistance to look for me. He did come back to try on some clothes. I hope he is doing well and happy. This is not the kindest of areas.

Personally, I don't see the need. Use the restroom for however you're currently dressed. So long as you're a genetic male in transition, and you're not wagging "it" at the other women in the restroom, they need to shut the F up.

Of course, I'm more open minded than most when it comes to this subject...
