Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knew if phytoestrogens come up in estadiol blood tests. I was thinking about taking fenugreek and I read that it has phytoestrogens but my endocrinologists monitors my estrogen so I don't want to accidentally increase it and then have her want to decrease my doses. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

If it raises your estrogen, it will show up on a blood test. However what's the point of going to an Endo and getting blood work done if you aren't being honest with him/her? They can't treat you properly if you are hiding what your are taking.

Actually what we refer to colloquially as "estrogen" is generally estradiol. The prefix "phyto" means "herbaceous plant" in Greek. Phytoestrogens are another form of nutrition. Most of phytoestrogens are not however estradiol or other types of the feminizing estrogens. There is a great deal of confusion and mix up about this especially among the health food crowd. However phytoestrgens are still good for you. But not in the way you may be thinking of. All types of estrogens are necessary for your heart, organs, brain and other functions in ways that scientists have not completely yet determined.
