Cystoscopy before my Perineal Urethostomy

While waiting for the scheduler to call and tell me my surgery date, my doctor called and said she forgot that I should have a Cystoscopy first. So I'm getting that done on Dec. 27th. I can't help but think that this is a little odd or strange and wonder why she's requiring this procedure. She said she's just got to make sure there's no obstructions, but it only takes five minutes and she could do it before the surgery. Just seems odd, but I'll go through with it. Any thoughts?

Let her do it just before the surgery. Why two discomforting episodes?
Any extra visit to a doctor is - discomforting.
Your tube is clear, isn't it? If so it may just be a "pro forma" procedure for her liability protection.
G'luck.
Looking forward to your continuing sharing. Esp. your thoughts on first peeing after the relocation.
Will your scrotum dangle in the stream, requiring a pull forward maneuver? Or will it all flow free and clear?

again, really!

In any hospital I've worked in cystoscopy is done in a different room than regularly surgery.
Cystoscopy uses a special table which allows the doctor to sit directly between your legs,
it also has a different x-ray set up. No anesthesiology is required. It would be impractical
to have to schedule two different rooms.

Hi Moi, thanks Sweetpickle,
She didn't offer it, she said she forgot that it was necessary or required. I'm not really against it, in fact, I'm looking forward to it. Yeah, I don't really understand why it's required, usually it's done, as I've read, for those with bladder problems, bladder cancer, or urethral strictures, I have none of those things. So it's probably just surgical protocol for those who require a perineal urethostomy. Maybe having this procedure will give me the opportunity to ask if she'll tighten things up down there, I've got (in my estimation) about 35% of my scrotum left and want to ask her to remove it all so that I'm smooth down below. I don't know how she'll view my request because there's really no good reason for removing it except it's empty skin that I don't like. Any ideas about what I can say that would motivate her to remove it? I've already been evaluated by a psychologist and deemed to be sane so I wonder if that might help when I ask her. Just saying it bothers me or that it reminds me of being male, won't cut it.

At some point, she should review the surgical procedure with you before performing the actual surgery. That would be the appropriate moment to ask. If she's going to be cutting and re-positioning that skin, asking to reduce/eliminate some of it is perfectly appropriate.

Since cosmetic surgeons already provide cosmetic scrotal reductions, circumcisions, re-circumcisions and also labia reductions that are purely cosmetic, I would think it is not an unreasonable request or discussion that would surprise her. I agree that you should bring it up during discussion of the procedure.

Hi Hash, when my uro agreed to penectomize me, I asked him If would mind to remove my empty scrotum as it kept sticking to my thighs. I told him I hated that and by removing it, the area wouls obviously be more higenic. He agreed and removed it without any fuss. Maybe it will be the same for you. Good luck...

Thanks Yoda, I might try that, except that I've had almost half of my scrotum already removed, so I don't know if that will work. It's worth a shot. She's a little suspicious of me and I don't want to jeopardize my urethrostomy. However, I did get a psych evaluation per her request and I think that's helped my relationship. I was just going to ask her to tighten things up for me and see what she says. It's going to be interesting. I'm actually looking forward to this cystoscopy, I think she's curious about the ampallang ring in my penis glans it's a number 4 gauge and when she saw it the first time her eyes got big. I'm leaving it in until the test, she'll probably ask me to remove it so she can scope me. We'll see, its Dec. 27th.

Had my cystoscopy this morning and it was fun and interesting. Since I'm not sexual anymore, I was not sexually titillated by what occurred nor did I anticipate what happened. I was surprised by it and it is absolutely true, cross my heart and hope to die! The nurse was a Spanish woman in her late 20's or 30's. She called me into the exam room and told me to drop my pants and hop on on the exam table. So that's what I did. When she saw my ampallang piercing and tattoo, she said, "Oh, love your piercing and tattoo, but you'll have to remove it. So that's what I did. Then she asked me how long did have the piercing and I said, "A long time." She then told me she was applying some numbing agent, I think lanocaine, and she attached some kind of wire like device or clamp to my penis. She started to tell me something but was interrupted when the doctor walked in. Then the doctor and I exchanged pleasantries and she told me what she was about to do. The nurse handed her the instrument which had a long flexible tube. She told me it might hurt and it did while inside and it made me feel as though I had to urinate the whole time it was inside. The doctor told me I could watch on the screen, I tried, but couldn't. After several minutes she said, "Looks good!" She pulled it out and told me the scheduler would call and set up my perineal urethostomy. She seemed in a hurry and I asked her about what type of urethostomy she was going to perform, but she said the standard and before I could ask another question she said goodbye. I was pretty disappointed, but the nurse stayed in the room and when I stood up I started to put the ring back in my penis and she said to me, I swear, does that hurt when you have sex? I said, I'm castrated and don't really have sex, she seemed a little shocked, but then said, I told my boyfriend that I want to get my clit pierced. Then I was stunned. Never had a woman said any thing like that to me, I was jealous. I wish I would have had a woman with a clit piercing when I was younger, but it never happened. I told her, good luck to you and she said goodbye. What an interesting day. A nurse who was excited by mods and a female urologist who seemed disturbed by them. Can't wait for my surgery!
