Star Trek & Horror & regional Hollywood

Post by moi621 (imported) »

The next Star Trek movie has cast the role of 'babe'.

When I saw the linked image, I literally jumped in my chair in disbelief. NOT a babe!

She's a Brit. One can only imagine her Brit smile.

Is Star Trek now a Brit franchise? Admittedly they did one good production, Babylon 5. But, there were a lot of "Yanks" involved.

Along with my neo-isolationist attitude I believe Hollywood should look to Hollywood's and not the Brits.

This is one big casting catastrophe.

Star Trek DS9 was the best for character evolution and encompassing plot with the Dominion.

No I did not forget Dr. Who, never liked it. Likewise Hitchhikers Guide, although #1 was more tolerable then #2.

I agree DS9 had fantastic characterizations. Too bad they had such crappy stories to work with. That terrific cast was really wasted in that series. I would have watched an entire series about any single one of those characters. A whole TV series of Odo solving crimes and battling wits with Quark, I would have watched that show. Somehow all those great characters never quite came together to work as a team. At least for me it wasn't an enjoyable ensemble, yet I loved each character individually. Weird huh?

Now comes the bone I have to pick with you...

Don't like Doctor Who????? Don't like Hitchhiker's Guide???? Moi, I'm afraid my opinion of you just went down. I would have thought Hitchhikers Guide would have been perfect for your sense of humor. Likewise I would have thought you'd enjoy the tongue-in-cheek elements of Doctor who that makes light of just about everything under the sun.

Some people have even said that the Borg in Star Trek were modeled after the Cyber-men from Doctor Who. The similarities are striking.

Shameful. Just shameful. I suppose you are one of those people who believe the special effects in sci-fi series should be more than just tin-foil, and fishing wire set to spooky music? Okay. I'll give you that, but Doctor Who's special effects are really very good now... they really are.

I guess I need to put you up on a slightly less high pedestal. Somehow I must find it in me to forgive you for not liking those Brit Sci-fi shows.

Just please, don't say anything bad about Red Dwarf. I don't think my tender heart could take it.

Moi, Hollywood stopped making good movies and TV shows 20 years ago, now the best sci-fi comes from Canada or the UK. its been that way for quite a while. Hollywood is dead, put a fork in them.

The red dwarf is a great show, then again I have not seen much I don't like coming out of the UK or Canada, including the actors.

You are of course correct, Babylon 5 was totally American, SG1 however was from Canada using many Canadian actors.

Anyone connect with the link? Message #1.

Babe or not a babe.

Another member sees babe. I see that unique female Brit attribute, doudy.

I thought Bab5 was put together in Britland although it featured lots of 🇺🇸 talent. I would like to be wrong on this one. Less credit for the Brits.

🇺🇸 U.S.A. 🇺🇸 U.S.A. 🇺🇸

Hollywood still does the greatest stuff. It is the best concentration of cinematography talent in the world.

DS9 had good character evolution. The Ferngi doubled their economy by including, females. The episode on Ferenginar was well thought out. When Quark's stuff was taken by the "central Ferengi bank or whatever" and he had to deal with "friends" coming to his aid with tables, chairs, glasses, etc.

Babylon 5 had some similarly good development. I especially liked references to "Brown Level". Vir kept eating there at some McDonald's reference and gets sick, Londo chides him that Centauri cannot digest that stuff, and Vir says, "but it tastes so good".

The Space Station was a good base for a story as opposed to the Star Ship.

There use to be three new Star Trek franchises running the same week. TNG, DS9, Voyager. Now there is nada. And Bab5 could not spin off.

Unfortunately the link is no longer working (or at least isn't working right now). So I can't comment on her "babe-liness" or lack of it...

As far as the Brits and Star Trek goes, what about Patrick Stewart? I think he is a great actor and I thought he made a great Captain. Although, I found it sort of funny that Jean Luc Picard had a French name and a Brittish accent...

Can we ban Moi for having bad taste in Sci-Fi movies?

On second thought, we better not. I liked Battlefield Earth :P

You also liked Star ship troupers as I remember. Yes I think it might be a good idea, BAN YOU BOTH,

well alright.

So did you like Battlestar Gagulia. 1 or 2, (I really think 2 should have been called Battlestar doppleganger).

Picard and TNG my least favorite Star Trek.

Didn't know where the Phasor fire button was, let alone his stores of Photon Torpedoes.

Must have been trying to save the Federation money.

Battlestar 1 or 2, one if I had to choose. Like the Stargate series on series - so what.

What happened to the Star Trek 2009 movie? It never came to cable. It has been placed in the vault.

The non Scandinavian Borg were a good creation. And "Q". And the exploration of the Andorians and pre Terrian influenced Vulcan in Enterprise. They were good in that each episode stood alone and added to a continuity of "lore". (Not Date's brother Lore).
