This is a repost of my blog FYI...

Been back to the Doctors with all the information at hand to ask for a prescription only to be told that "I dont have any experience in this area and wont prescribe anything" and "I will take instructions only from your counselor" and "If you want to be a woman you can make do without hormones or blockers, other do so why cant you".

Then they looked at me and said "Yes" as to say well I'm not asking I'm telling.

At this point it was obvious that I would not get any further.

No name change & Real life experience varified by counselor = No hormones

No hormones = a realy f**** off transgender person who cant see how they can begin to pass as female if they dont look it...

This sucks big time and to top it off I was told if I'm feeling depressed I can have ani-depressents to make me feel better

NHS sucks at this... why dont they understand?

To say I'm depressed is an understatement... He also asked me if I'm lightly to self harm or commit suicide... maybe only after talking to people who dont seem to want to help me...

Yeah that's how the NHS operates, you have to have been Real Life for 3 months before they will even consider prescribing hormones. To be honest you only have to be "real life" the times you see your therapist and when you eventually go to get your blood tests etc....

It may have little to do with understanding and more to do with standards.

Wow. I make do without, but even I think that is downright unprofessional of the doctor to say that to a patient.

Then again, if he really doesn't know shit in this area I can see why they won't prescribe anything. Leaving it at the first 2 lines would have been fine, that 3rd one was really unprofessional. Is there another doctor you can go to for a second opinion? You might just need to get a new doctor. And the name change requirement is bizarre. I've never heard of that as a requirement, it really sounds like the medical personnel in your area is f*cking you right over.

Whereas it is true that some males can easily be women (sing as women, dance like a woman, etc.), most males cannot due to the normal male's body's production of testosterone. So that statement while being correct at the beginning was totally ignorant in it's assumption and showed a lack of medical knowledge. Only if you're a born-eunuch or have had some kind of medical intervention to become a eunuch(castration) can you be able to pass as a woman.

Years ago I hears a story from Liberace (on TV not in person) about being denied IRS tax write-offs for his costumes. Some fool of an IRS agent said that his onstage clothing was not deductible. So he put on one of his more flamboyant outfits and went down to the IRS offices to appeal. The sight of course as so outrageous and crowd attracting that the decision was a foregone conclusion.

Now that may not help you but quite possibly showing up at your therapists and doctors office might. Then again, it might not. I even hesitate to suggest it. I would not be brave enough.

I know just how you feel. Here in the States I am on Medicare because I am disabled. They are excluded by law from treating my transsexuality in any way, shape, or form. Being disabled on SSD, I don't make enough to see private psychologists or pay for hormones and blockers. That has not kept me from living as a woman full time for the last seven years. Yes, it would be nice to transition, but that is not the reality of the situation. In fact, of those who seek psychological help for gender Identity disorder, which is only a fraction of those affected, only one half of one percent (.5%) ever transition. That means the vast majority of those with gender issues, never transition.

In fact, historically speaking, transition is a fairly new thing. It started in Europe in the 1930's and finally the US in the mid 1970's. Before that, no one transitioned their bodies, just their lives. I am a woman because I believe myself to be a woman, not because of hormones, surgery or breast implants. Yes, I am hairier than I would like to be, but so are many women. My natural breasts are not big enough for me, just like many women. Money can make you look more like a woman in many ways, but how you carry yourself and how you feel about yourself has more to do with passing than hormones.

Before that, no one transitioned their bodies, just their lives. I am a woman because I believe myself to be a woman, not because of hormones, surgery or breast implants. Yes, I am hairier than I would like to be, but so are many women. My natural breasts are not big enough for me, just like many women. Money can make you look more like a woman in many ways, but how you carry yourself and how you feel about yourself has more to do with passing than hormones.

What about me then? And I think it's unfair to judge me based on what I have. Hell do you even consider me a woman or a "crossdresser" because that is really patently unfair if you do. I've said before qbout lesbians, that to decide that just because I have the genitals I do I must only be able to have sex in a certain way is quite superficial and offensive, and that extends to the thought that anyone with functioning male genitals is physically dangerous, without any regard to the person inside. God knows I am one of the first to be horrified at the thought of women being sexually assaulted, yet I am lumped into the same category as rapists. I don't even think of cisgendered men as rapists, so I'm sorry Devi but I don't think you're unbiased enough to be offering Hungrycat any advice that would not impact her wellbeing. She doesn't need to be told she's not a girl and a monster until she can get rid of what she has physically.
