Verify Ghostly Image

There was a bunch of kids having a bonfire at a well known lake near here. Being Hispanic, they were taking a bunch of pictures of each other. I think it was the next day when they were looking at the photos, one guy asked who the child was. There were no kids there. The photo was at night of a couple in front of a tent. I didn't really see it at first myself, but to their right and back a little is this sort-of figure. If you amplify the image, it begins to very clearly looks like a round faced young female dressed in the style of 100-150 years ago. You really cannot see her feet. Both her face and clothes are kind of a pasty white, which is about the same color as the tent, so you could say that it is just an accidental pattern of shadows.
We emailed the photo to a guy we know who is really talented in Photoshop. He said that he probably could not do that in Photoshop and that the image scared him (as it has everyone).
Does anybody know software to check the photo to see if somebody is playing games.

I can see why I confused you.
First, I was not there. I think the group was probably about 17 to 22 years old. It is fall break now from school. I hate to admit it, but those are kids to me.
The image seems to be of somebody about three feet tall. Because of the size, people refer to it as a nina, child or kid. Also the dress style is like what I think of as Dolly Madison. I suppose it could be a nightie also. If you look at this image from Google
http://www.google.com/imgres?q=dolly+ma ... 29,r:5,s:0
You can get a feel for the style. Except it appears to be very roughcut clothing. Not silk or anything. Here is another in the approximate style:

I think it is the apparant size of the image and the style of dress that cause people to automatically refer to a nina or child.
We are working on getting permission from the couple in the picture to reproduce the photo. If that is a problem, maybe we can even trim it down to exclude faces or block them out.
I will let people know if we get permission to post the photo. If somebody has software to detect fiddling, let me know and maybe I can email the image.
Thanks

Its Hallowe'en. Time for ghost stories. And if the guy doesn't know how to superimpose an image, he doesn't know much. Photoshop manipulates existing images, but there are many ways to create images before they get uploaded into Photoshop.
