On the news tonight the guy said something about a holiday weekend, What holiday could that be? I said to myself. So I looked it up, its Columbus day weekend. This is something that was never celebrated in California, I remember its a big day in Chicago, I am not sure what they are doing around here, but I was just wondering.
Does the area you live celibate Columbus Day?
Do you?
I guess they do here, and NO I do not.

Probably some union folk get Columbus Day off, or holiday pay.

In Ohio our capital is Columbus. No mail or banks will be delivered or open. Of course the elderly will still need care so no holiday for me.

I did not know Columbus made it to Ohio, hell I thought he only got to Cuba or some such island.
I guess its like Cinco de Mayo in California a truly big holiday, given that half the population in California is Mexican or of Mexican heritage.

I favor Bjarni Herjólfsson Day.
Lief Erickson just stole his thunder.
And aborigines do not count. I didn't make up the rules.

Reads like wrong way Corrigan.
By The Way, Bjarni Herjólfsson is spelled phonetically. Just sound it out.

Pass the Lutefisk.
Vikings must have eaten it. They were tough and did not shower. Ref the manuscript of Ibn Fadlan Relating His Experiences with the Northmen in A.D. 922. Good read.

You know it may have really been the Chinese that discovered the Americas first some 3000 years ago. But who wants to give up Columbus Day for Loo Ho Chung day or some such.
Reference: anchors found off the west coast of South America match the type found in China. Look it up "3,000 Year Old Chinese Anchors"

%20Anchors.htm the working link.
Some have suggested that these stones were used by the Chinese that occupied the area during the latter half of the 19th century, while others suggest the stones were used by the Portuguese during the same period to anchor whales during their butchering.
Back to Bjarni Herjólfsson Day. Yea!
I could not even Google "Loo Ho Chung". Did he exist? Variation on Decarte.
