I was reading this once article about Pres. James A. Garfield. It was almost darkly humorous. He was shot by Charles Guiteau, but not fatally. At least initially. So the first doctor on the scene probes the bullet hole with a dirty finger to see if he can find where the bullet might be. No luck. So the seond doctor does the same with a dirty finger. As do about 20 more doctors with dirty fingers. Somebody got Edison to rig up a primitive metal detector to see if that would find the bullet, but all it showed was metal everywhere. Nobody said anything about Garfield being put on a new invention, a metal coil spring matress. Garfield died of infection.
At his trail, Guiteau's defense was that he did not kill Garfield, the doctors did. He was hung. The doctors were not.

Lincoln was also abused by his physicians.
Reagan on the other hand received excellent care. I most liked the peritoneal lavage as found no bleeding in the stomach and no need for exploratory upper abdomen surgery. When they could not find a bullet they passed a rubber catheter down the bullet track and voila.
Too often important people get such special treatment they end up dead. Reagan's team did very good 'by him'.

And Washington they bled to death.
Which brings about a point, the medical community today Doctors in general think that only they can cure anybody that is sick but when you think about it, its only been in the last 100 years that medical science (doctors) have finally started to get it, and man is millions of years old, GOD only knows how we ever did it, one would think we should have died out long before doctors finally figured out they needed to wash their hands before and after treating a person. Horse doctors all of them, except of course my doctor who I think knows what he is doing, at least so far as I am not dead yet but he keeps trying.
