It was suggested we index or indicate story length and we will (just have not gotten that far yet). Here are some interesting tidbits though.

Of the 1,130 stories our proofreaders have gone through by hand, the longest story so far is:

Brandon's Life Chapters 1-6 with 46705 words

Runners up:

Pilgrimage To Norcia - The Story Of Tommaso Pinett... with 32155

Consiglio's Bed with 31457

The Choirboy with 27882

The Choirboy - Part 3 with 27201

Arrival with 25729

Simon Takes Stock with 21359

and

Nero 59 with 19585

Take a few days to read them.

Editors need to watch those Simon stories. As hard as I've tried in the past, for some reason, the story may be duplicated within itself 2 or 3 times, thus making a false long length. I know of at least 1 that I had missed and Cainanite found. Glad to know that I am not in the long list!

I've had that problem when I think i've got <p> in the clipboard, and instead I have a page of text.

as long as I havent saved I can just close the edit window without changes

I took it on myself to do the Simon stories, and so-far most of C van D' stuff. I caught quite a few times that the story doubled, tripled, or in one case quadrupled the story in the body of what was submitted.

I made sure it was an actual duplication, and not a revision, before dumping the duplicaticated sections. I don't think I've missed any, but it is something to look for and be aware of.

An easy way to check, was simply to highlight the first line of text, and hit the search button. If the text reappeared in the story, it was pretty easy to see that the story was repeating. When I confirmed this, I selected the duplicate text, and hit delete. It helped pare down the amount of editing I had to do.

I've found that concentrating on one author at a time, lets me learn how they write, and what kind of problems are common to their submissions. Once I learned how to do one story, the rest came easier and easier. It is why I went through all 59 chapters of Nero by Pueros. Every author provides different challenges, and if you want to be consistent, you should stick with it. If you jump from author to author, you keep having to stop, think your way around a problem, and work hard to submit it. When you then jump to a new author, there are new challenges, and what you just learned seldom helps. Stick with stories that are the same, and you can go pretty fast.

I guess when I get around to submitting my novel, (70,000 words and growing.) I'll need to break it into smaller pieces, huh?
