Hi everyone,
as a new member of the community, Id like to introduce myself, so all of you know who I am and what kind of background I have. First of all, Im 30 yo and live in Karlsruhe / Germany. Three years ago, I finished my psychology study and started to work as a therapist.
So what am I doing here? One my first clients was a women, who has been forced to get circumcised by her (ex-)husband. Since that time, she wasnt able to get orgasm any more (without any physical reason). After few sessions, I was able to help her. I also have some clients, who lost (parts) of their genitals by cancer or by an accident.
One another interest, are people with fantasies about let me call it genital modifications. I like to read the stories, the guys / girls wrote for the story archive and analyze the language and the words, they used.
Yeah well, this was my short introduction; if you have questions to me, just ask!

Welcome to the zoo. As you've already seen, this is a very disparate group. Please ask questions as you go along. We'll certainly try to help.
I'm an anthropologist who is conducting research on gender dysphoria and, through the research, trying to help those with Male-to-Eunuch gender dysphoria and with Body Integrity Identity Disorder. With colleagues, I have published several papers on the subject and have organized a panel for the biennial meeting of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health that will be held in Atlanta, Georgia in a couple of weeks.
Copies of the papers are available for any Eunuch Archive member who wants them. Please send me a <Private Message> with an email address that accepts PDF attachments and I will forward them.

Do you support relaxing the current requirements for genital modifications (penectomy and castration, etc.) and SRS? Why or why not, and how?

Yeah, well, what do you mean, of you write about "support"? But let me answer your question this way. Today everything you do is subject to supervision by some government. It's food, traffic, ..., and of course health. But does the government really know, what is better for you?? No, of course not! Because the government is compromised by some mifia kind of lobbies. Just take Monsanto. This company is like (of even worse then) the devil. If they want some new law, they get it. Money rules the world, not the government.
But now back to genital modifications, SRS, or so....
My personal opinion is, that genital modifications are not better or worse than any other modification like a tattoo. If someone wants the modification, he should get it.

I'm sorry if I am misreading your response to Mac, but I don't think "

Okay, lets talk about it. A Tattoo is a wanted permanent modification of the body. And a penectomy? It's also a wanted permanent modification. Okay, the "impact" is harder, but the base is the same. Just take another body modifications like piercing, branding, tongue splitting, implants, meatotomy, genital bisection, ... If you continue that line of modifications, you get to the "harder" modifications like castration or penectomy.

While there may be no difference in kind, but there is a huge one in degree. And frankly, human beings have proven time and time again that they're not so good at thinking rationally about the consequences of their actions. As an example, there are many tattoo artists who refuse to do visible tattoos (hands, neck) on someone unless they already have a fair amount of coverage. Even then, there's a good number who will flat-out refuse to do facial tattoos under any circumstances. Why? Experience has taught them that people do stupid things, and when they have to face the consequences of their idiocy, far too many will choose to blame anyone but themselves. (See this winner (
http://articles.nydailynews.com/2009-06 ... -horrified), who later recanted and admitted she'd asked for them, after nearly destroying the poor tattoo artist's career.)
Similarly, when it comes to penectomy/castration/SRS, there's FAR FAR FAR too many who have no frigging clue what's gonna happen to them afterwards, have utterly unrealistic expectations of what life is likely to be like after, or are simply far too focused on the event itself and ignore life after. While it might be nice to say "so sad, suck it up and deal with it", the reality is that these days those people will turn to lawyers and media.

There is a real difference. A tattooed arm or ass works as well as a natural one; one doesn't lose functionality. An amputation or phallectomy reduces function. Orchectomy not only reduces function but substantially alters the entire body chemistry. If you get Dick Cheney's face on your buttock with his tongue stretched towards your asshole, you can still shit. You lose your balls, and you have to worry about osteoporosis, hot flashes, and a variety of side effects. These are not differences of degree but differences of nature. That's why gender reassignment has to be supervised by endocrinologists and nipple piercing can be done for $40 at your local mall.

Yes, but are we really talking about some idiots, that have no clue about things they do? If some person has a real wish about it’s body modification, knows the consequences and risks, why shoud we to put obstacles in his way? Plastic surgeons work the same way. They talk to the clients, they inform they about the risks.
