British publisher Longman put out a new English dictionary, as if the world really needed another one. But this was "A Dictionary of Language and Culture" defining words in a more relaxed tone. By that I mean John Denver, who would normally have been defined as "a popular country and Western singer from the 1970s" would be described in the Longman edition as "a singer whose music inspires any discerning listener to castrate himself".

While living in Colorado, I signed a petition asking John Denver to move to Alaska and change his name to John Anchorage.

Hey, some of us still like Johnny D. give him a break, he's been dead a while. If you don't like something, that's your prerogative, would I damn your music? No. I grew up on Bluegrass and Country, people either love it or hate, it's your choice and this is still America where we're free to listen to whatever we want. So keep your opinion to yourself. Hey, come on guys, like any music, you like it or don't, there are only two kinds of music I don't like, Country and Western.

Not really, I don't like western or opera, some country is ok and I love bluegrass but given a choice its Classical.

John Denver had a different stile and had lots of hits, he is still honored every year on PBS when they grovel for money.

Some of his better songs were never hits, I think my two favorites of those were Matthew and Forest Lawn. The second one to understand it you must have lived in LA or at least visited Forest Lawn at some point.

Well, personally, I will take John Denver of 99 percent of the music put out these days. At least it is clean word wise. Of course, choices in music are personal choices. And, as far a country and Western (C&W) is concerned. I would hark back to the Grand Old Opry days of yesteryear (40-70's). I have much of that era on cd. I mix things up, classical, C & W, Southern Gospel, pop songs from my youth. I draw the line at much of this day's music as too raunchy to enjoy.

I agree with you regarding that. I also liked john Denver.

I suppose I have a broad range of music I listen to, John Denver being on one side, Disturbed on the other and most things in between some rap (Mostly like Mixalot etc), not much, and definitely not Eminem .... I just despise him. Then flow around to a lil bit of pop culture, tv themes, and settle somewhere in the moderate rock genre Oh, can't forget classical music & jazz and blues n such, I listen to a lil bit of those too Oh and I do have some stuff that pre-dates Macthewolf things such as Jack Benny & Boston Blackie etc
