Hi all--

I normally would not post a message on another site regarding MBM and I hope the EA moderators will let me keep this here, but for those of you that come to the EA I wanted to let you know what is going on with the error message you're seeing over on the MBM website.

The short version is that as far as bandwidth is concerned that apparently the site host has a different definition of unlimited than is contained in the dictionary. The server host shut the site down due to overusing bandwidth (now you know why I was placing limits on file sizes - I was trying to avoid this) and they claimed they warned us about bandwidth three times, yet we didn't see a single warning. I've seen in the past with other IP hosts that unlimited isn't always unlimited, and apparently this is the case with the host we're using.

Put another way, they shut us down and we've become a victim of our own success.

The host has basically put a gun to our heads and said we need to sign up for a dedicated server space, which comes at an additional cost. At least they have given a solution, unlike what Ning did. The cost, spread among the entire subscribed user base, shouldn't be significantly more if I'm calculating what I'm seeing correctly, and we're looking into seeing if we can keep subscription prices where they are currently. Should the subscription cost need to go up, we're going to raise it as minimally and transparently as possible.

We are working to bring the site back up, so please be patient as we do so. The server host simply bitch-slapped us with this today with no prior notice and we're having to respond to it. I first noticed an issue saying "server not available" about midnight Pacific time last night (UK time 0800 this morning).

For now it is back online. Just to clarify, none of the content is lost. What happened is the server host took us offline because they said we were using more than our share of "unlimited" resources. Go figure... I always took unlimited to mean infinity. LOL

Anyhow, as of right now we are online.
