Osteoporosis

I thought I might pass this on because I understand that osteoporosis is an issue with some members.

There is this one gentleman even older than I whom I have known for several months. A conversation about gyms brought out this info.

He was diagnosed by his doctor about five years ago with osteoporosis. He was prescribed a drug which within a few months about killed him. It was so bad it launched him into looked for a non-drug therapy. He found it thru a diet change and light weight bearing exercises. A trainer showed him what light weight bearing exercises are and he is very religious about going to the gym in the morning. He goes back every two years to his doctor for testing and is now told that he is slowly improving, so keep taking his drugs. He has not told his doc that he quit the drug four years ago in disgust.

Hope this helps someone.

Osteoporosis can be an issue for any eunuch or even men with low testosterone. Bone density tests are available although you may have to initially ask your doctor for one as it is more of a female thing at this point. If you search you may be able to find free screenings at local hospitals. The worst part about it is that it is unnoticed until something breaks and then its too late. It is treatable and like most afflictions there are several ways to treat it. If one doesn't work for you, other options are available.

When my first post-castration bone density test came beck with me just in the osteopina range, my doctor recommended that I up my daily calcium intake by 1200 mg and take either estrogen or testosterone to help it be absorbed better. I though it was neat how he said either male or female hormones would be fine with him. I've since found out it is more of a hassle at times to get prescriptions of testosterone filled than estrogen but either work for this purpose. Maybe I should ask him if I can switch on a month to month basis! Anyway 6-7 months brought me back into the plus range on the test so it works for me but I know other eunuchs who need a more complex treatment. This is one area you should stay on top of.

Zinc for your skin and magnesium for your bones are other important minerals you may wish to research.

Fluoride.

Most convenient as Fluoridated water.

Water is the natural nutritional source of fluoride.

When a fluoride atom substitutes for a Calcium in the crystal matrix, the deformity of the geometry makes a harder structure.

Bone is not static but dynamic, always making and breaking itself. Osteoporosis occurs when the making is outpaced by the breaking down.

Before bone can make itself it requires a cartilage foundation to lay down the minerals.

Lots of Gelatin as in 10 gr Capsules and Jello and chewing the white stuff at the end of bones are good sources. Basically, two amino acids, proline and hydroxyproline, I think both are essential amino acids. Not self made.

And Vitamin C 500 mg plus 50 mg Rutin and 100 mg Bioflavinoid, the latter two use to be called Vitamin P and considered responsible to organize one's gelatin / cartilage construction. May be found in one tablet / capsule. Common formula.

Except for drinking my Sparkletts Fluoridated water, I take no nutritional supplement regularly.

Faith sez taking it a while, leave it alone a while works best.

Moi

Biochem rusty, check me out on essential amino acids.

Is it possible that adrenal glands produce enough testosterone to keep our bones healthy? I assume that we take multivitamin and mineral supplement and regular weight-bearing exercise.

Which raises the question, just how much testosterone is needed to ward off osteporosis. By eliminating testicle testosterone, each of us will likely still have some testosterone produced elsewhere in the body. Androcur or Siterone will help to reduce or eliminate that. But should we eliminate it all? My goal is to keep a T level that is just low enough to eliminate sexual interests, but high enough to maintain healthy function and this is pretty easy to regulate just by monitoring how you feel and how you perform. But I have not obtained any information on a minimum amount of T needed to avoid osteporosis.

Osteoporosis is real, and a problem for anybody who has been castrated or has eliminated T.

Get a bone scan every 2 years.

Drugs like Fosamax will bring you back to normal.

You should be taking a calcium supplement daily.

You can be active and do stress baring weights and all and still have Osteoporosis, the only way to know is see your doctor and get a bone scan. This is not something you can guess about because you can't feel it, it has nothing to do with your energy level.

So, I take 2mg of estradiol valerate most days, whenever I remember really? Actually probably closer to 50% of days. Am I at risk? Been nut free for 5 years now and I get the sense of feeling strong in my bones but I suppose I could be kidding myself?

The only way to know if you have any bone loss is by a bone scan. You can't feel it, you can't see it, you will never know for sure, the only way is a bone scan which is usually done on the hip or thigh bone because its large.

I like that term: "nut free"..Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.

Anyway, I have had a bone scan which was done early after my T level dropped below 100. There was no problem. At least I have a baseline.

Every few years I can monitor the relationship between T level and osteporosis.

Then again, what the hell, I'm closer to death than to birth.

Something will be my demise.

Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead; eg. I'm living life while I have it !!!
