Cure for sex addiction?

Hi,

I'm a bisexual married male in his 50s. I have a good life which is ruined by an obsession with sex. I'm either cruising, frequenting gay saunas or surfing the internet for porn.

The amount of time I waste on these activities is dreadful, not to mention the deceit and double dealing.

I have come to think more and more that my life would be better without my out of control libido.

I'm not interested in chemical castration - I want them off with a sharp knife.

I do know very well what you are going thru , alot off us have that problem.

i would certainly advise to try chemical castration first, and see iff it really is what you want, iff not , you can always recover. once there of there is no way back. so think it over and discuss ont his forum to get to know more abaout chemicals first. iff it seems to be "your thing" than there is plenty time to get rid of your balls after the trial. all the luck

Thank you - I think what you say makes sense. Anyone know the easiest things to take?

depo provera or spirinolactone. both worked well for me and niether is too expensive. the best part is you may find that once your t levels lower you man not want them gone as immediately or badly. i was almost obsessed with getting rid of mine. but after some DP spiro and hrt the need isnt nearly as urgent. i still want them gone for sure but i dont need it this instant

Spironolactone is not only chemically castrating, but it is also a diuretic so people taking it need to watch out for hypotension (low blood pressure). Use only when monitored by a doctor. Buy a blood pressure cuff and take readings on yourself (one of the wrist type you get at a drug store is fine) and if you notice your blood pressure go significantly south of 120/80 (normal BP) and you're on Spiro, make sure to get to your doctor.

depo provera is most certainly the best option , normally it is a gentle way to get chemically castrated. it is also very gentle when talking about side effects.

I do have some (minor) liver problems with it , however this is most uncommon.

maybe the spirinolactone is something for me, have to do some extra research on this one. any supplementary advise would be generous

Actually, I strongly suggest that you try SSRI (anti-depressants) meds. They are well known to both help obsessive-compulsive behavior and also lower libido.

They worked very well for me. I was major sex addict, sneaking out of my house and work to cruise for prostitutes, spending almost $1k a week on prostitutes, also masturbating and browsing porn incessantly. I finally checked myself into a hospital as a psychiatric emergency and the guy there prescribed Celexa (an SSRI). After taking Celexa for just a week made those things just simply not seem interesting anymore.

There are side effects (like maybe feeling a little disconnected with things), but those are much less bad than side effects of castration (weight loss, bone density loss, depression, mood swings, hot flashes, loss of muscle, loss of strength, loss of energy).

Definitely don't try castration until you've tried SSRI. They don't work for everyone, but if they work for you they will be a much better solution. The cool thing is that you'll still be a man, but the urges just won't be very strong.

Note, it seems that part of your problem is your unfulfilled bi-sexuality. Castration is not and should not be a cure for homosexuality!! Maybe you should just face the issue head-on (pun intended). Do you really want to go through life with a part of your being not expressed or fulfilled?

some good avice has been given on here, and i would just like to say, please try chemical castration and dont get them off untill you truly know that is how you want to live.

If ou dont like life that way, then you just need to stop taking the medication and go back to how you were, but if you cut them off and dont like it,you cant join them back on again, please think about this, after all it is one hell of a step to take.

Castration might not be your best solution because your sexual desire will become mostly non-existent after castration and someone addicted to porn, etc, might find that extreme and become very depressed. However, as a eunuch I have found that I can control my sexual desire because I can decide how much HRT I use. Controlling my sexuality with a low amount of compounded testosterone has been, well, wonderful. But there are some consequences you might not be ready for once castrated, consider:

1 - You will not have any balls anymore forever. You won't feel them moving around or pulling up tight to your body when you're about to orgasm.

2 - Your orgasm might not be as powerful and they might feel different in subtle ways.

3 - Your penis might shrink even with HRT, especially if you're using a low dose and you might grow breasts.

Thanks to you all for the replies. Some thought provoking stuff. I looked up the various drugs on wikipedia, it made them sound a bit scary but then if you read the side effects I guess you'd never take anything.

Does anyone know if you can get them without a prescription in the UK?

On the bisexuality thing - I'm not depressed about it - in fact I've always enjoyed it. It's just that as I get older other guys get less interested - so if I had so sexual urge it would clear the decks for other hobbies.
