A few days ago I was watching a show on cable about the fashion designer, Ralph Lauren's automobile collection, several of which were being prepped for a show at the Boston Fine Art Museum. Got me thinking. So I thought I would throw out a couple of question for discussion.
1) Are cars appropriate things to display in a fine arts museum. And--
2)What do you consider the three most beautiful cars in history.
After some thought my nominations for the second question are
1) Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic,

2) The Ferrari GTO (the original one)

3) The Jaguar XK-E (the early short wheelbase, pre safety bumper ones)

And after looking at some of these my answer to the firs question is a resounding yes.

works of art?
Of course they are. I like your three choices..and I think the late 20's and early thirties provided many fine examples of American automobile art, particularly Chrysler, Deusenberg, Auburn, and many others...The depression seemed to squeeze the life out of these wonderful designers..I loved this era..
