I was reading in another thread about a book called Castration by Gary Taylor and it got me thinking if anyone within the archive has ever written a book about castration, particularly about the history of it through the ages and it's role in modern society now?

I'm sorry.

Gary Taylor's book is probably the absolute WORST material on the subject of castration that one could possibly lay eyes upon.

The most complete Bibliography (http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=17583) on castration and eunuchs of which I am aware is the listing of my own personal library that I have posted on the Non-Fiction Articles Board. I haven't updated the list since July and need to do so soon. I still have quite a number of items that I haven't typed up yet, including some books from the 19th and early 20th centuries that I have recently found in used book stores. For example, I just last week acquired a copy of Richard Millant's Les Eunuques à Travers les Âges. (Paris: Vigot Fréres, 1908).

While a number of the items on the bibliography are my own writings for medical journals, I know of no good comprehensive history of eunuchs that is in print. I hope to someday complete the one that is started on my computer, but that is a long way off....

A good book on the many facets of the subject is "Eunuchs & Castrati" by Piotr Scholz.

While it's obvious that the author might have been a bit out of his depth in tackling such a topic, it's still a good read.

Another one, alhtough it only focuses on the Italian castrati, is "World of the Castrati" by Patrick Barbier.

And of course, there is Jesus' list in our nonfiction section.
