The significance of being insignificant.

Last night or should I say this morning I had the pleasure of seeing for a time something that hadn’t happened in 436 years a full lunar eclipse during a winter solstice. As I stood out side in the cool night air looking up at the moon turning (Red) it hit me that this was a solitary moment in time. Except that this moment had more significance than anything that is happening in our lives, or in my life. I once again realized just how small I am living on this planet and how my problems pale in comparison to the cosmic events that happen almost daily in one part of the universe or the other. I stood there in awe of looking at the moon realizing that no matter what I do all my accomplishments add up to nothing in relationship to the cosmos. What I’m trying to say, is that I realized my mortality this morning more so then when I was diagnosed with cancer this revelation brought it home. Gays in the military, the economy, unemployment, and so on all take on a whole new meaning when you look at it from that perception.

I looked out to a totally overcast sky, no moon, no stars, no nothing except a lite snow fall. Guess I will now need to wait for the next time, in another 400 years. I wonder how it will be, being that old, I must remember to ask MacWolf.

I am thinking quite often the same way. It helps me in a way. For example if I feel really really bad, I know that the sun will always be the same and warm no matter what, as it used to be when I had better days. That there are people that are happy at the same moment and that my personal misery will fade sooner or later. Someone is just happy seeing sun.

The world continues to turn. Moon around the Earth, Earth around the Sun, Sun around the supermassive blackholes in the centre of galaxy, Galaxies will move on in the Universe. Universe continues to expand.
