Hi!

I understand that it feels fantastic being able to write in Chinese but for the majority of us readers it makes no good at all, are you going to give us a translation later on?

Greetings

John

I used babel fish to translate, and whilst its not perfect you can get the feel of what is going on. It is interesting to read the literal translations and to try to double guess the meaning. Has anyone got experience with other translators or recomendations for others to try out. I assume there will be variation in the quality and results for different translators

I'm using Babylon, which you have to download; then it loads as one of the tool bars on your browser. It puts a lot of crap and advertisements on the tool bar I don't want, but I never click on them. It will translate a whole page with a couple of clicks and does give some of the best translations I've seen

Not everything has to be posted in English. Surely out of the tremendous amount of English language stories on the archive, you can find at least one that you'd be interested in. 💡

We have stories posted in German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, as well as in English. It's up to the reader to find an online translator for them, if he wishes to read them.

An author generally writes in his native language; he isn't showing off writing in a language other than English. As Losethem says, there are plenty of English language stories, if you don't wish to use a translator.

It's a mass of characterless squares for me, despite having repeatedly installed the appropriate language packs.

Doubly galling too, since I can actually read chinese(and write, somewhat, although most of that ability's been lost). If I could actually see what was written I might just be tempted to actually submit properly translated English versions of Vivian's stories.

Punky, you need to change a setting on your computer if they characters are just little boxes. If you run a PC with windows, there is a setting somewhere in your browser you can change; I think Paolo has posted something about this in the past.

Both my computers display the correct Chinese (simplified) characters, and even if that doesn't work, if you just copy what's in the address bar when you are viewing the story (whether or not your computer is displaying the characters correctly) and paste it into Google Translation with "Chinese" to "English" selected, it should give you a readable translation.

Sorry if I over-explained that....

I have tried tweaking the thing in the browser countless times too, so I've given up trying to get it to work. I don't generally need to read chinese anyway, not without referring to a dictionary too much, which rather kills a good story. Terrible really lol.
