Calvin,
I for one find your story excellent! Yes, it is quite different from most stories here, but that's precisely what makes it so attractive! You bring in truly new ideas.
I generally prefer happier stories, at least that have some sort of happy ending, but your story, despite being overall so sad, does still trigger happy feelings. The moment when Jay takes flight is one. Flapping one's newly acquired wings, feeling the air under them, loosing the ground under one's feet... It's one of the oldest dreams of humankind, and the hero of my own first and most important story in this archive has tasted this feeling too, although in a totally different form. Some other young eunuchs in this archive took flight as vampyrs... To each his own, one might say, but the theme of taking flight is always a good one!
Keep the stories coming!
Flight of the Jay

Re: Flight of the Jay
Thanks for posting that. I am glad that you like the story, despite the rather dark theme. In that case, I will keep writing it. The story does not end here, and maybe some parts will be happier
Interesting that you liked the moment Jay takes flight. It was that moment he stopped to rest on the church that I had in my mind's eye when I first started planning out this story. I wanted to capture that moment of primal exhilaration. I am glad you felt it too.
I considered a vampire story too, but don't have anything original on that score right now. I loved S P Somtow's "Vampire Junction" though.
Thanks for the comment.
