One of the quirks of heart surgery is that until the pericardium (the sack around the heart) heals, the patient won't hear their own heartbeat.

The heart pump that was installed is often a pre-cursor to a heart transplant. I should think he would be ineligible, since he is such a heartless bastard...

Yeah, and he'll get one, surprisingly fast, and we'll pay for it.

It would be wrong to give this guy a new heart, he is to old and someone more deserving and a lot younger would not get one. Plus what Kristoff and Paolo said.
