Adobe Flash 10.1 Does it work?

The BBC News and some other sites have changed to a new system for embedded video. I used to be able to download that video just by clicking on it. Now I get a still image for a second or so before it fades to dark grey. From there on nothing at all happens.
Apparently Adobe Flash Player Ver 10.1 is needed to play this video. To download it calls for deleting any previous version and first you have to download the uninstaller. Then you have to do something with ActiveX(which I don't really understand) and then you can download the Flash installer and finally, version 10.1 itself. And then install it. I've done all that three times and it still doesn't work. It's the same with IE, Firefox and Chrome.
Have any of you guys actually succeeded with installing Flash player 10.1 and got video to play using it? If so, do you have any suggestions regarding what I may be doing wrong?
