As of Saturday morning local time Central time the chat server is up.
The only way at the present to get to the server is to use a program something like mIRC.
To configure mIRC
System tools
In the server box
IRC server ..........Darkstar1.tzo.com
Port.................... 6667
When you connect you will get a screen to enter a pass code.
Move away from the display and you will see 3 numbers in the pattern of letters.
On that screen type /ab <the three letters you see>
like /ab 123
The link from the message board may be up later today.
There will be only a few in the chat room. Most use the message board to enter. So stay around and see if more join.
Sorry about the problems. Hackers are no fun.!

The prompt for the password occurs after you connect to the server, but I try to connect, I get the message "No Authorization for this server". So, I don't think you are doing anything wrong; they're still working on getting it up (the server, I mean).

That procedure is no longer in effect. The hackers were able to bypass that.
The link from the message board is working.

If you really need to use different software send me a private message.

I think you let them win by taking everything down, but as a moderator of another site I understand what you're dealing with.
Is there a way to make each connection require a *different* password, and have it set up to where you have to approve each account? I know that would be inconvenient for newer users, but once approved, they should not have issues.
Or perhaps change the name/IP of the server?

I was on last night when it happened.
It seemed like a "denial of service" attack based on some
weakness either in the server or the chat window software.
does either have some provision for limiting the number of people
who can log in?

The server is licensed for only 100 connections. Never was a problem with the most in at one time was only in the 50's. Once you reach that number your connection will be stopped. He comes in and loads the room in a few minutes.

The server software has a system wide password. We never used it till the past few days. The user password comes after the server log in so a different user password would not help. The problem is in the front end.
Most of the users of chat seldom read the message board. Would be hard to contact members to give then a password. We are looking at ways to correct the front end problem.
