I'm watching a repeat of Star Trek Enterprise, episode, "Proving Ground"

where Schran (Jeffrey Combs) playing the role of the Andorian Mining Consortium to the Xindi. ( He did a great, Weyoun in DS9 too )

Well, as the Andorian Mining Consortium he finally agreed to turn around and leave Xindi space.

With communications off, he ordered his ship to turn around and said,

" . . do it slowly, the Andorium Mining Consortium runs from no one!"

Well I laughed out loud, maybe I just needed a laugh.

This episode also has Suzi Plakson who did a great, female Q in Voyager.

Here as Tarah, she says, "it isn't the weapon but, the soldier who wields it".

Well this has been a good episode with two memorable quotes.

One of my favorite episodes of Star Trek, the Next Generation was entitled "Darmok." It was about a race with an unintelligible language. Captain Picard and the Children of Tama commander are beamed down to a planet to work together and learn to communicate

From what I understand in that episode, "Darmok" , it was very interesting to see two Shakespeare trained actors doing those roles

it was a two part show and the final line they had Professor Moriarty in a little box and set him on a table, As they left the room Picard says to Riker maybe some day we will be in a cube on a table.

One of the things I particularly liked about Star Trek was how almost all of those space aliens that the Enteprise crew encountered spoke English, some as a first language and others like the Klingons as a second language.

If we should ever meet some real space aliens our linguists are going to have lots of fun getting up to speed and understanding say Sirian.

There was one episode when Kirk and his crew met some ancient Greek gods. I only saw it once, the first time around, and I'd like to see it again. Does anyone else remember it or is my memory playing tricks?

Kortpeel, I certainly remember the episode of Star Trek that you describe, but I do not recall the title... I think it was something like "Requiem for Apollo" or something like that.

My own favorite episode of Star Trek was when the Enterprise was lured in by a "distress signal" from a dying planet, when the Captain and landing party beamed down, they found no one left alive, everyone had long ago died from high levels of radiation... But when they beamed back up, something beamed up with them, and altered the ship's life support system to put the whole crew in a deep freeze suspended animation. Of course, Captain Kirk stopped the aliens, but only by letting himself be seduced by a beautiful woman, and... well, if you saw it you know the episode I am talking about.

I am no "trekie," I liked "Star Trek," but my own feelings about it are mixed, I think the ORIGINAL series was reasonably good, but it got worse and worse with every season. Really, they should have STOPPED, and let a good thing stand alone, rather than piling more garbage around it.

As for the Star Trek movies, the first one was horrible, it set a very low standard, and all the other Star Trek movies were not as good as some of the TV episodes of the original series.

The Next Generation was... well, it was very politically correct, dreadfully predictable, politically correct, unimaginative, oh, and did I mention it was politically correct?

I only watched one or two episodes of "Deep Space Nine" and I was never desperate enough to watch "Voyager" or any of the other Star Trek stuff.

"Requiem for Apollo" sounds about right, Kirk was all about chasing a skirt, have you seen Boston Legal? nothings changed. The first movie was crap, some of the others were very good, the even numbered ones. The next Generation was great, I watch re-runs of it every night, much better then the original series but you did have to put up with Wesley Crusher, even he wanted to be out of the show.

Deep Space 9 was not bad as TV goes, I never watched the rest of them. A new Star Trek movie came out last year, starting the whole thing over, I would like to see it in a series but knowing TV land, it would be canx after the first season, it would be to expensive, best to keep making movies.

And NO it was not great TV or Movies, but I have never had a high opinion of TV or Movies, I don't have a high standard, I want to clear my mind and be entertained, I don't want to be told some deep meaning message or the like, if I want that I read a book, or watch/read the news.

Avatar was such a movie, the story line you figure out about 6 minutes into the movie, the rest was just what it was meant to be, pure enjoyment of the special effects, you don't need to think about it, just sit back and enjoy.

As a guy who has watched WAY to much Trek, as well as read books, played video games and, yes, even has board games based on the material let me help out here.

The Apollo episode was called "Who Mourns for Adaonais?"

Favorite movie is soooo easy - Wrath of Kahn is still "the best of those movies".

Episodes are much more difficult. TOS has lots of good stuff, as well does TNG and Voyager. Never go into DS9 or Enterprise, but I've heard from one female friend thate DS9 had one of the most emotionally poignant sci fi episodes she had ever seen. Enterprise, well, it just wasn't all that good...and even I'm not quite sure what was wrong, but something was wrong for sure.

"Errand of Mercy" from TOS has always been a favorite. Basically, the Federation and Klingon Empire go to war and the Enterprise is sent to keep a planet called Organia, populated by the Organians as a Federation base/launch point. Long story short the Federation and Klingon Empire are eventually reminded that no matter how big a fish in a pond they think they are, they are always bigger fish:)

....I vaguely remember a book with a castratrated Romulon, but can't possilbly remember the name.

Right now I'm down on TNG because they sold a bunch of crappy episodes to BBC-America. There are an equal number of really stupid TNG episodes as there are good episodes.

I miss the silliness of DS9 partly because it had an incoherent story arc and relatively thin long-term ideas during the first few years and then as its ratings did the dipsy-doodle, they got a new writer(s) and a coherent storyline that could arc over the few remaining seasons. The Ferengi Home world episodes were particularly disturbing and IMO represented writers in the death throws of some venereal disease.

Enterprise turned out to be disappointing hackery and sub-standard story telling. It had way too much dependence on time travel and regularly treated the viewer as mindless. It was a true trash wallow of sci-fi for giggling 8 year olds as they reminisced about childhood. And then they invoked Nazi Germany. Truly inspired (HAH!).

Voyager just got unbelievable. The weapons reached levels of power that could rival stars and create objects from nothing. It reached a point of trying to guess what sort of new violation of physics might occur this week.
