I have experimented mildly with different methods of chemical castration over the past decade. I achieved the results one would expect from a few weeks here or a month there with androcur and other meds.

Last year my wife and I decided that I should take a more serious approach and I did a six month trial on Depo-Provera. It was just like all the fictional stories, she loved it. I have to admit that we got along better than we have in years.

As we agreed at the onset, after six months I stopped. We wanted to approach this as a trial to see how we both liked any changes I might experience.

The only negative side-effect I had was weight gain. I put on about 30 lbs. I don't regret this because I feel the positive aspects of chemical castration outweighed the added pounds. My wife said that she hardly noticed until I mentioned it (god bless her).

My questions is this. If I were to start the injections and continue indefinately should I expect to gain another 30 lbs? Or since I have already put on the extra weight from the drug could I expect to stay about the same?

On one hand we are very eager to resume the injections, but the prospect of gaining another 30 lbs. is a bit scary.

Any insight or shared experiences would be appreciated.

PS - I notice in a lot of posts readers want to know the medication schedule before they comment. Here is what I did:

Day 1: 300 mg Depo Provera (June 1, 2009)

Day 7: 150 mg

Day 14: 150 mg

Day 30: 150 mg

Day 60: 150 mg

Day 90: 150 mg

After about three months I went to three week intervals due to returning libido and continued this until the end of the six month trial.

Weight gain is not necessarily attributable to Depo Provera. I took it for over 2 1/2 years and lost a few pounds over that period and have lost a few more since my surgery. Weight gain is always attributable to injesting more calories than you expend. Lowered testosterone can make you less active and less activity will burn off fewer calories if you take in the same amount. Low T also goes along with diabetes so extra weight is doublely bad in that case. Its simply up to you to balance out your intake versus body needs. If you're not as physically active, eat less.

I'm kind of surprised your experience is like the fictional stories. Which ones? And in what ways?

I think from what I know about this is that gaining unwanted weight will be easier and loosing it will be difficult when you are castrated. You would need to think about a variety of health issues if you decide to continue and I would warn you that a 6 month "run" of chemical castration is the max time you should experiment with as your testicles will atrophy during castration and long periods of "off" time will make it unlikely they will be able to run again at 100%

Talk to your GP about having liver function done and DO get serious about dealing with bone loss. Your probably going to need to take some calcium at the very least and of course you should be keenly aware of any depression issues.

Why did you decide to do this btw? I don't want to be nosy but I'm curious? if your married is it not an issue for her when you become uninterested in sex?
