male contraceptive Scientists to test ultrasound

Scientists are beginning tests to see if ultrasound can be used as a reversible contraceptive for men.

Based on early work, University of North Carolina experts believe a blast of ultrasound to the testes can safely stop sperm production for six months.

With a grant of $100,000 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation they will push ahead with more clinical trials.

The researchers ultimately hope it could offer a new birth control option to couples throughout the world.

Lead researcher Dr James Tsuruta said: "We think this could provide men with up to six months of reliable, low-cost, non-hormonal contraception from a single round of treatment.

"Our long-term goal is to use ultrasound from therapeutic instruments that are commonly found in sports medicine or physical therapy clinics as an inexpensive, long-term, reversible male contraceptive suitable for use in developing to first world countries."

Once the testis has stopped producing sperm and all "sperm reserves" have been depleted, explain the researchers, the man will be temporarily infertile.

Their Grand Challenges Exploration Grant project aims at fine-tuning this technique for maximum effect and safety.

For some reason, that reminds me of this story (http://www.eunuch.org/Alpha/C/ea_210907cleaning.htm).

Maybe technicians could 'accidentally' turn the power up while they work, and create new members for the board here?

I'm with Flo. I had 2 ultrasounds done to my testicles but the ultimate was having them removed. Now there are absolutely none of those pesky sperm anymore nor do I really have any need to deliver them even if they were still around.

On the story... I have heard working ultrasonic cleaner (bigger one, for cleaning circuit boards). Anyone who have heard it, would think long and hard about using it on himself.

You do not hear the main frequency, it is too high and just feels as pressure on your ears, but cleaner modulates main frequency and that can be heard and gives you a headache very quickly.

Sounds interesting.

Reduced libido is what some men are seeking here. They could control how long and how often they reduce their libido for themselves and short of giving their balls too much time and juice in carrying out this method, probably no permanent damage (well have to wait to see what the research finds on damage risks).

You might have just invented a fast, cheap, easy, and reversible way for men to simply reduce their libido with an at home, DIY, painless method. Maybe you can patent it and make some money. lol.

Let us know how things go. Thanks for the info and for volunteering to be the brave man trying it out.

Hey, what does it feel like on your balls when you use it?
