Just linked a YouTube clip of a Saturday Night Live,
Church Lady skit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnCZxLvYXI8
in another thread. Really worth watching the end.

promise
So Moi was thinking
(Oh, no not Moi thinking!)
How about if we share favorite Saturday Night Live skits as we
may link from YouTube and other sites.
How about
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RajNvJ3bCU
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9SaKYFR6ms
And how they stick in our minds to this day.
Where have all the good writers gone?
Moi
Share please.

Dana Carvey and his clan were good, but nowhere near as good as the first "not ready for prime time players" (John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtain, Garret Morris, Loraine Neuman, Bill Murry, Dan Akroid, Gilda Radner). SNL has only gone downhill ever since it peaked out, sometime in the late 70's to early 80's.
The SCTV gang were also outstanding, but that was then, this is now.
Obviously, of the three you offer here, the third link, "Fox Gallery" with Dan Akroid, Steve Martin and John Belushi was my favorite.
If I spent hours raking through videos, I suppose I could pick out my favorite of favorites, but for now, off the top of my head....
The Killer Trees, anything "Samurai" and the Bees, as in "Bad News Bees" etc.

I'm willing to rank Dana Carvey and that era with the greats, the legends of SNL. This is especially true if you compare them with anything SNL has produced in the last decade. I don't think anything they've produced has achieved 'legendary' status since then.

"More Cowbell" with Christopher Walken and Will Farrell is one of the funniest skits ever done on SNL.
Chris Rock did an awesome on on his show called "how to not get your ass kicked by the police. Lauged my ass off!

My favorite SNL skit is the series where Tina Faye pretends to be the governor of some backward moose-hunting state running as clueless Republican vice-presidential candidate; they even persuaded Katie Couric to make fun of herself by doing a mock interview where the airhead governor was floored by Katie's fluff interview questions. Totally surreal.

I doubt if YouTube has my favorite SNL episode. It was Jane Curtain interviewing Dan Akyroyd about his hideous Kiddie Park.

OH! But don't you know, didn't you hear? Her star is on the rise. (

I bet he hopes that she doesn't help him like she did the last time...
A Maverick with lipstick! (
