Oops! Zapped my computer!

Post by devi (imported) »

Well I may not be on the web too often for awhile since I had built up a lot of static and when I went to turn on my laptop I got zapped and now my keyboard only partially works. It's not much good when you can't type anything. Everything I have is over at home and I'm a little far from there. My neighbor is feeding my cat. Oh well.

Well, Dev, if your member is slowly fading away I would have thought you had other problems to worry about!

You could always use the On Screen Keyboard (if you are using Windows)

I've been at my aunt's for the last two weeks since she just got out of the hospital convalescent home. All my options are back home about a two hour round trip away without snow. The computer that my uncle used has a five pin connection (a dinosaur with a 5.5" floppy) but I do have another keyboard with a USB connection at home and even another desktop that I could have brought even. And I cannot leave her alone for that long of a period. But then since I do happen to have enough I may just go ahead and upgrade Windows 7 now. Then I could fix and use my present laptop as a back-up later. I do know someone who could do that. Right now as I'm writing this I'm at the library in her town. (I'm usually at some library anyway.)

Best wishes Dev. I hope you do get things sorted out.

Blimey, 5,5 inch floppies! Each capable of storing 360kb of data! Or 720kb if they were double-density ones! Makes you think, doesn't it?

Oh yes, it's all coming back to me now. Those were five and a quarter inch floppies that those dinosaurs used to have and then they couldn't reproduce. DAMN!!! I'm getting old!

Well I'm up to Windows 7 now. Maybe next time I'll be rich enough for a Mac but then again I did have a lot of bad luck with that g4 notebook.

I can top five inch floppies, at one time i was trying to learn how to program with 80 column punch cards! What a nightmare...

Did you zap the keyboard or did the drivers become corrupted? If its the driver go into the device manager and select the keyboard drivers then delete then restart.

Good luck young padawan!

Ever seen 8 inch floppies?

We used to show them (and the disk drive) to the first year computer science students, with the tale: "when the computers were big...."

A friend of mine has a working 4-platter 5-meg hard drive - 48" square, 8" high, and weighs about 20 lbs.

and yes, I remember 80 column card - anyone remember paper tape (teletype)?
