I was impressed with this note by River and found it to be a vehicle for a new thread.
"I know, you would think if you showed ID to one the rest would realize it and wave you through, but Cops being what they are have badge suffering from a what ever envy they have feel its there responsibility to be what they do the best, being a pain in the ass."
Well, how about it?
Why and how are cops an unnecessary pain in the ass?

C'mon. Is this Board dying or what?

Now Moi, casting aspersions on the sexual proclivities of Our Men in Blue is unfair! You say they're pains in the ass. They probably think of themselves as pleasures in the vagina. Others would call them tickles or taps or minor irritations. In any case, we should remember that they always stand behind us ... especially if we're bending over.
And "unnecessary"? Are dildos unnecessary? You be the judge.

No, the REAL police officers are not really a pain in the ass, they are however a necessary evil, and sometimes much less necessary and much more evil.
I make no secret of the fact that I do not like most cops, a few exceptions, but for the most part no, I just don't like them. Still, even on my worst day, I KNOW in my heart of hearts that they are a necessary evil in our society, and though I do everything possible to have no contact with them, sometimes I am happy to know they are there... Those times are few and far between.
Why do I have such a problem with cops? Ahhhh, let me count the ways...
First off, the "cops" I truly despise, are not the real cops, the ones I really hate are the fake cops and the wannabe cops. Fake cops are the ones who are NOT ever in any likelihood ever ever ever going to face a real criminal, and if they ever do get close to a real criminal, it is only because a real cop has already captured and cuffed the criminal. Yet the fake cops are the ones who carry impressive badges and lots of the newest weapons and gadgets, and fake cops would have you believe they are the toughest and bravest of all. Who do I call "fake cops?" Mostly the "law enforcement professionals" who never wear a uniform, spend most of their time studying crime statistics and reading up on the finer points of some obscure laws, the fake cops are the ones who are always on TV, but never actually get attacked, shot at or in any other way in danger. Oh they think they face danger... as they bravely patrol airport men's rooms masquerading as male prostitutes, or as they bravely masquerade as street hookers, or as they bravely masquerade as 16 year old girls in chat rooms, or as they sit in elementary schools and hand out "D.A.R.E." pamphlets, or.... etc, etc.
Wannabe cops do actually wear uniforms, everything from dog catchers and police dispatchers to helicopter pilots get badges and wear spiffy flight suits, (and have less flight hours in ten years than the average military aircrewman racks up in one month.) Wannabe cops also include "airport security" or any of the newly created and UNnecessary "Homeland Security" and "Transportation Security Administration" people. The wannabe cops are truly a needless pain in the ass.
So, now, we come to the few, the sometimes dastardly, the real cops. These are the men and women who for the most part, wear their uniform and do not pretend to be what they are not. The real cops are the ones who actually deal with real people, and their real problems. For the most part, I respect the real cops, don't like them, but give them grudging respect. And the biggest single reason I don't like the "real cops" in one sentence is this:
The law enforcement professionals in the U.S. today are much better at catching the average law abiding citizen who makes an occasional mistake, than they are at catching any real criminals.
Most of the time, they very conspicuously ignore flagrant violations of the law and the public peace, while at the same time vigilantly enforcing some of the stupidest laws. They conspicuously ignore crimes committed by people who actually frighten the cops, people who look mean and talk dirty, they are so unpleasant to deal with huh? Much easier and more profitable to write lots of tickets generate some revenue for their departments, and they are NOT going to waste time on someone who will not pay the fines, they are out there "looking out for you" because you are the one who does not look mean or talk nasty, you are the poor working stiff who they know can pay the fines. Not like the meth-head trash that they do nothing about, or the hispanic gang-bangers who scare the cops so badly.

I stand behind our men in blue. They are the ones who I will call if an emergency arises and I need help. They are the ones who are charged with keeping the streets safe and our cities and towns secure.
I firmly believe there are many MORE GOOD police officers than bad ones. In my own personal experiences, which have been few, I treated them respectfully and did as they said, no problems.
My perspective is from a white American, my experiences may have been completely different had I been a different ethnicity...I will never know. I have dealt with both white and black policeman and treated them the same, and they treated me the same.
When in doubt, I give my support to the men and women who put themselves at risk on a daily basis on out behalf.

As an individual a cop is for the most part OK, I said for the most part, they tend to become very calloused hardened and see only black and white. As a group I think they are dangerous, they live for the adrenaline rush, watch cops on TV and you can see what I mean, and these are the good ones, it goes down hill from there.

My local PD serves a rich population yet they do have internal corruption problems in perpetual improvement programs and serial Chiefs.
In 2009 I had the opportunity to be a victim twice. No details necessary.
On both occasions, even when I was delivering stuff they asked for,
I found my self, the victim, being treated as the perp.
I disagree with some of their basic policies, like no patrols in the poorer
part of the city where homes are only around 1 million. But, in the multi
million dollar areas, you see a cop every few hundred yards.
Comparisons made on public streets, not gated off streets. Those are private.
A nearby city uses Fed money to improve street safety for children.
My PD uses the same money for, alcohol check points.
Something is, sick about most who even want to become a police officer.
I am amazed at how the personalities of fire responders and police officers,
being the same age, fitness, etc. and in a unique clique, can be so different.
I worked for the City of Long Beach some time back. Their police officers retire after ten years on a knee disability. Count on it. They would even dictate the name of the doctor they want to see for their ten year and one day knee injury. Life time pension of 50% of their salary.
And these are the Blue Knights!? The protectors!?
They are by majority a sick group.

Most Cops are like most people. Their treatment of people is directly related to how they are treated. If someone comes on as being an ass, well, be prepared to be treated the same way. If you have a problem with an individual cop, complain to his/her supervisor. But do not bitch about the rest of them that you do not even know. If you really do not like cops, get a gun and deal with your own problems and don't call them.

Just not true for my City where they behave like, "Moi is one of the outsiders and not one of us". Nothing personal, they treat everyone in my neighborhood the same.
Generally, they take about an hour after being called to appear in my neighborhood because they are all concentrated amongst the multi million dollar homes. This has been observed by my neighbors too and volunteered to me.
The P.D. claims there is more crime where they hang out, y'see.
I claim a popular fishing hole is popular 'cause y're catching fish does not mean another fishing hole would be less desirable.
Sorry, that's the way it is here.

My complaint is that the police here are never "punished" for anything
they do. Fake evidence, dead bystanders, false arrest it's all OK.
