This is a good story but rather weird and unbelievable. If my count is correct, five boys on the swim team nullified themselves, two removed hands, two removed fingers, one removed most of his penis, one removed his glans, one removed his arm after accidentally losing the other arm and one removed half his foot.

I doubt that even one guy on the team would remove anything more than a finger or glans. I also doubt that the aliens would be so stupid as to not know that the parts were from different organisms.

I think the story should have had more detail about how the guys who nullified themselves and the guy who removed most of his penis dealt with their new status. What did they do when other guys found out that they had voluntarily removed their genitalia?

Well, removing hands, arms, feet and fingers would make it a little difficult to swim in a straight line.

CuriousGuy, I see your point, but I look at the story completely differently.

The story grabbed me specifically because of the unbelievability of it; the fantastical, and yes, A-1, the insane idea that something about this magical, Twilight Zone-ish hamper can not only painlessly remove body-parts, but that it also, somehow, causes a completely inappropriate response; "Whoa, neat! Look, my arm's gone! Haha!". See, the very fact that it's so "wrong" to NOT freak-out that Bobby lost his arm, is the very hook that makes the story unique; something about the device causes a devil-may-care attitude in the subject, as quickly as the wound heals. When he went back and removed his OTHER arm... that was the proof that something even wierder than the limb-loss was going on. Great writing.

This is what gives the story its very strange, other-worldy (literally; the hamper was planted by aliens) feeling.

I have a feeling there were many here that read it and enjoyed it, but are shy to admit it... Author, know that you do in fact have fans out there!

Yes, the story is very rather odd, but it's nice to see people throwing caution to the wind and really getting their inner thoughts on 'paper'.

I call it creativity, without bounds.

I thought the story was rather cute and funny. Of course, it wasn't realistic, and not every story has to examine how a kid reacts to being nullified.

As far as what kids would and wouldn't do...have you watched any of the vids on the Internet about the crazy, extreme, things guys do? They risk their lives doing stupid stunts.

I just read a David Baldacci book. The plot in this mainstream book was ridiculous and the dialog was crap. I'd much rather read a story like this than another Baldacci book.

Slammr must have validated this one, and I missed it.

Call me strange. I promoted it.

I found this story to be silly and fun. It was like a cartoon where the characters have fun, lots of laughs, don't mention future ramifications, and it's just an enjoyable and silly thing to entertain. It flowed and the continuity was good. I hope we see more from this author! Thanks!!

I'd like to see a standalone sequel where the "Collector" realizes he messed up with the boy who came through, when he has another mission on Earth.
