i just bought and installed an LG 37 inch HD TV and gee, it's so nice. It replaced a 7 year old Toshiba 26 inch HD TV.
It's 120 Hz and 1080p for those who follow the numbers.

Mine is bigger
It sure beats the old one, an old Sanyo

Hmmm, mine is smaller. Only 19" measured on the diagonal.
120 Hz and 1080p are impressive features!

There are three things (besides price) anyone has to consider for flat screen TV's ...
1) Plasma, LCD or back-projected... The thinnest TV's are the most expensive and are like computer screens (LCD). Plasma TV's are cheap right now because they use more electricity than LCD screens. There are still excellent back-projection TVs and if the price is good, buy it. So if you buy for bragging rights, then buy the LCD with the LED backlighting. It's the hottest new thing. If you need a new TV, buy the best picture at the cheapest price.
2) if you like sports, move up from 60Hz to 120Hz or 240Hz. That's a measure of how fast the screen updates. Sports are fast and you'll enjoy seeing the action better. If your idea of action is a DIE HARD movie, then you won't need that fast a screen update.
3) 1080p is the top resolution right now. If this isn't the primary TV and you'll only be watching the news and nothing much else, then get 720p. If you like movies and watch a reasonable amount of TV, then go for 1080p. As the stations networks upgrade their cameras, you'll be happier with 1080p and not have the desires to buy another TV. A year from now, my advice would be never buy a 720p screen unless it is smaller than 18 inches.

My first HD TV was a 26 inch Toshiba and it was good for my bedroom. It is still a good TV.
The very last thing, don't buy the biggest screen in the world for a room that is too small. The manufacturers are pushing bigger sizes. If you are sitting close to the screen, you won't like it. Those movie closeups where the face fills the three foot high screen don't look good up close.

I think I'll go into the next room now and watch the vacuum tubes warm up in my trusty Admiral 15 inch console. --FLO--

After all the hassle and heartache of the digital conversion and 1 year lifespan of $800 TV's with Grandpa, I'll never watch it again. I'm starting to hoard old CRT monitors now, too. The 4:3 type.
