I have a question for some of our members who are knowledgeable in eunuch history. I know a number of cultures had eunuchs at different times in the past. I was wondering whether any of these cultures "marked" their eunuchs in any way through tattooing, branding, etc. Can anyone tell me if there is any history of eunuch body marking and, if so, what those markings were? I have several tattoos and think it would be interesting to have one that signifies my eunuch-hood, even if nobody else would know what it means.

I really can't answer your question re historical practices. However, I see nothing wrong with having a tattoo that distinguishes you as a eunuch or masculine gay guy w/o balls.

While I have no tattoos and don't go out of my way to draw attention to the absence of balls, I'm not shy about being nude in public and people perhaps noticing that my sac is w/o contents. It's interesting that they hardly ever do, and most of the comments I get are positive ones. I have a pair of rings in my sac and usually get supportive compliments on those.

I too know of no specific historical method of marking eunuchs, but I am sure others will be better equipped to answer that.

I have given thought to a tattoo that is fairly blatant. My idea was a pair of balls with the universal red circle with a diagonal line thru it over the top of the balls.

I haven't acted on it yet , but just may.

I have seen an image of a bloodied knife poised over two diamonds as a symbol, if I remember correctly. Perhaps someone can confirm what part of history and context it comes.

i have my slave register number tattooed on my inner thigh. this was done on weds 21 Oct 2009. This is a start i think

Jesus - this one, not the one up there - created a couple of designs using the Kanji for eunuch.

I had the thought of a pubic tattoo shaped like a fuel guage with the needle pointing to E.

I'm another one who now doesn't shy away from public nudity. I shower regularly at the gym...no one notices! Which is a relief to me. So I don't think that tat will ever happen!

Charlene, please explain the significance of the slave registration number. Is it actually logged in someplace? Just curious.

In answer to the original question..I have seen a three part yin and yang symbol to reflect the 3rd gender which could include a Eunuch or and "other" as in my case. I have this tattoo on by abdomen.

This is true and I have a tattoo of one in a dream catcher and its on my left shoulder the right one is my avatar, Riverwind.
