Anyone seen any good television lately?

I am reduced to Babylon 5 online.

Gone:

Deadwood

Rome

Carnival

all replaced by Wayne and Garth production costs.

Besides historical fiction, I also like, schmaltz.

Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman

Little House

And comedy that does not seek the lowest common denominator

Seinfeld.

Well we do have Comedy Channel and

South Park

Colbert Report,

Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

I would appreciate any sharing of, "good television".

Don't diss TV here. Too easy a target. ;)

For my part, on Hulu.com

I can recommend the The Good Wife without hesitation.

I recently discovered Torchwood. After seeing all those, I started on Doctor Who (2005), the show from which Torchwood sprang. All available on iTunes. These are BBC shows which throw the difference between the US and UK into sharp relief. Americans love their happy endings, and the thought that Good always wins in the end. Brits know better. Also, the acting is consistently outstanding, and there's little US TV of which that can be said. The plots are original, and the possibility of loss makes for real suspense. I don't have a TV, but I've enjoyed downloading these shows.

P.S. Torchwood is also the only show I've ever seen which includes both gay and straight romance, and treats both with equal seriousness and respect.

Torchwood is excellent Sci-Fi. It's not on my cable yet but I have one season

from a Canadian friend, on DVD.

Can definitely also recommend Torchwood. Also another UK show Being Human. Other shows I like to watch -- From FX: Rescue Me, Sons of Anarchy, and Nip/Tuck. From Showtime: Dexter, Weeds, United States of Tara, The Tudors.

From that same Canadian friend there is the Red Dwarf and the IT crowd, Torchwood and Dr Who. You can see Old reruns of are you being served, as time goes by, the last of summers wine. There is one that friend showed me about three young people, one was a ghost, the others were a werewolf and vampire just trying to fit into normal everyday life as it were. If you watch PBS there are several very good programs, MI-5 is one, Paroit another, plus a lineup to keep you in good TV several nights a week.

The regular TV networks hit a winner once in a while like Boston Legal but for the most part its trash. PBS good all the time.

...to watch that is.... But I do have dish with 500 channels of what to buy what not to buy, people speaking spinach and how to cook spinach, what to build when your not busy excercising in the bathroom, psycho-killers in your living room or "badboys" watch-you gunna doo-doo, locked up with a broad and if that's not enough I grace myself with bliss watching my favorite "news" reporter in syndication Nancy Mace. I gotta get a life. It's gonna be 100+ today, bike ride to the creek!

Ken Burns has programs on The National Parks of the USA that will begin Tomorrow, Sunday, the 27th...

I like Burns. I always learn something from him and he never disappoints.
