i am going on holiday to San fransisco on 25 Sept (date is not really important), and was wondering what is the risk of me taking my Siterone and Climara patches through customs??

Anyone any helpful ideas?

Do you have prescriptions for them? If you do, bring them along so long as you have the original packaging (IE bottle/box from your chemist with your name and the prescription information printed on the bottle/box.) I would think enough for your own personal use, during your stay, so long as it is prescribed by a doctor is ok.

If you've obtained these drugs on your own without a prescription, leave them at home.

Well this presents me with a bit of a problem....

i am on 150 mg Siterone and am a bit worried about stopping suddenly for a week - due to hormonal backlash - of which i have read.

i have purchased these legally, though from an on-line parmacy (Inhouse) but have no prescription, so this option is not available to me.

Bit of a worry, yes i am in Sf for 1 week and would only bring enough for my use that week.

Unfortunately i am travelling with my wife , so may not be able to meet You - MUCH as i would LOVE to,

I flew from Sacremento to Michigan a couple years back with a supply of estrogen and progesterone pills, had no prescription, and no one mentioned it at all. hmm.

I should have mentioned i am flying in to the States from the UK.

i will take just enough patches and tablets for my own use for the 7 days i am there, but have no script etc.

I dont think it would be a good iea to stop either or both suddenly though for a wek, and NEED to have them with me !

I would agree with this if it were a US domestic flight (they won't check), but Charlene will be flying into the United States from another country, and therefore have to go through passport control and customs. If her flight is from London to San Francisco direct, well, I know they were not checking at SFO the day I came back from Germany. However, I entered the US as a US citizen, and I'm sure they check non-citizens more closely.

She could risk it (IE go through and hope they are not checking that day), but if they are checking, she best have the prescription with her. I think they would probably at worst confiscate the medication. I don't think they care as much about anti-androgens as they do about testosterone, which is a controlled substance. I have traveled overseas with my testosterone, but my prescription label from the pharmacy was firmly attached. Still, nobody ever checked me (Germany, The Netherlands, South Africa, or Swaziland).

I suppose it would all depend on how big of a hassle customs wants to be on a given day.

Bring your meds. Pack only what you will need during your trip, and pack them in the same area as your toiletries. You will have no problems.

The TSA has no interest in your hormones. They are looking for illegal drugs and controlled substances that will be sold. Typically they are only interested in drugs that get you high.

You will be carrying medicine to keep your hormones in balance. No one will care about that at all.

i agree with lurker, i fly international all the time, it says right on the box perscription medication and nobody ever looks or cares

I'll have to agree with Lurker & David as well. It won't be any problem at all. I travel internationally quite often and have never had anyone question any of my medication anywhere - either overseas or returning to the US. Even on the 2 occasions where my luggage was checked, the customs agent never said a word about it. Really they are more concerned with drugs, food, and liquor over the allowance.

Also, you're flying into San Francisco and I'm sure you won't be the 1st person to bring hormones into the US. In the remote case anyone asks, simply tell them what the meds are. If there's any city in the US where the people should understand, it's San Francisco.

So...don't sweat it and hope you have a great trip!
