My first blood test, half a year after

my castration, came out with 1.8 nano-

mol testosterone per liter. Normality -

just if something like that really is

in existence, should be somewhere from

8 to 28. This would put me at 22% of

minimum normality.

The only thing that I found on the net

was another 'normality' number and it

read 12 to 40 nano- mols per liter. It

translated into 3.4 to 11.4 nano- grams

per milliliter. An even more bizarre

dimension with 10 to the minus 9th over

the fraction stroke and 10 to the minus

3rd below it.

Does someone know a bit more about it?

Or maybe a URL where the level of

testosterone is explained a bit more in

depth? Maybe even for eunuchs???

My Doctor said the T count could be between 300 and 900 avrage is about 5-7 hundred. My count is 35 I have no idea how that translates to you but here it is for what its worth.

Here in the USA, I have only seen the measurements in ng/dl, which stands for nanograms per deciliter.

In his book on castration, Victor T. Cheney writes that "The average testosterone level falls from 611 ng/dl (variation 300-1100 ng/dl) to 43 (plus or minus 32 ng/dl) after castration in the normal adult male's blood serum".

Now on my last blood test, run by LabCorp, the reference range for testosterone in an adult male is given as 241-827 ng/dl. I came in at 28 ng/dl. So I am now at 5% or less of what the average intact adult male has.

For the record, they also tested me for estrogen, and used pg/ml, which stands for picograms per mililiter. Not all that much. Normal total estrogens for an adult male is listed as being 40-115 pg/ml. For prepubertal males and castrates, it is listed as being less then 40 pg/ml, but I came in at 93 pg/ml. Why so high? No idea, but it might be a side effect of my prescription medication.

Hey- the exotic weights and strange

measures seem to happen this time on

my side of the pond. I translated my

numbers into your (metric!) stuff.

So we got now 6 sets of readings

for normality, which sounds very

democratic but the good point about

it is that they all go roughly into

the same direction:

230 - 800

340 - 1140

300 - 1100

241 - 827

300 - 900 and

500 - 700 - all in ng/dl

and we got three eunuch values:

28

35 and

50 ng/dl

Should be plausible, too. And now

we should close this thread as soon

as possible, or some scientific

minded guy will show up and explain

the differences between three kinds

of testosterone and make things

complicated. Just to make sure that

science is his field and not ours.

My results? Somewhere around .12 or so. Which would mean my levels are about 1.5% the minimum normal range.

That could mean that your adrenal glands have also shut down. Are you taking any medications that might be doing this?

No, not taking any meds at the moment (aside from ranitidine or famotidine). I probably should be, but am not.

In the past, I have taken numerous SSRI's, though, an MAOI, and one or two tricyclics.

As for my adrenals, I've been tested, and apparently they are still working, but at something just above the bare minimum levels.

These are the problems of not having a good GP, endochrinologist, and/or Pdoc.

to convert the levels reported in the system used in the USA to those reported in Europe, divide the US numbers by 28.

ng/dl to nm/liter

divide by the molecular weight of testosterone to get to nanomoles. then multiply by 10 to get to liters from deciliters.

the mol weight of testo is 28x.
