Circumcision as a symbolic substitute to castration

I found this interesting article. It is a book actually, that is dealing with psychoanalysis with puberty rites and circumcision. What they have found is a connection between circumcision and castration. Of my own experience I can tell, that this is true.

Text's approach is scientific and serious. Good for them who is seeking true explanations and answers. Lenghty reading.

Just as an example:

There was a Roman emperor - Elagabalus, who was thinking about being castrated. Finally as a substitute to castration he got only circumcision as castration was way too severe thing in Rome. Even circumcised penises were considered very unroman and insulting. Getting circumcised must have been a serious step.

Background: He was generally in disregard to Roman customs and taboos. He made many things that insulted Romans from every social level. And finally after being at power for 4 years, he was killed at age 18.
