Tarianius\' History Germany 34 AD

submitted by History Girl

From a brief historical text....

......The women having been sent to slave markets the defeated Germans were lined one behind the other....The strongest amongst them were pulled aside for the gladiator camps at Mauritius. Several hundred were then castrated- slaves proficient in their craft swiftly and efficiently severed the scrotums from the new slaves.Any resistance meant death. The bloody sacks filled the buckets to overflowing...

...From there the eunuchs were sent to the salt mines at Naetia-their lives spent in endless labor. Even the warlike Germans became docile-no longer men but eunuch slaves of the powerful Roman Empire.

From Aliatus' "Victory of 34 Ad..." ( short-lived as the Romans were forced to relinquish Germany within 20 years.." Translated loosely from the Latin.......

I think that was a smart thing to do by the Romans. Every slave-owning culture knew very well that they had to remove the balls of their captives to turn them into subservient slaves. That was standard in most ancient cultures, especially in Rome. After all, you do not let bulls run around uncastrated on the farm, do you?

Human slaves were seen as "animals on two feet" and treated as such. I wish i had more information on HOW they performed the slave-castrations...

Editor's Note - a historically accurate statement. Overbreeding by slaves COULD result in serious problems.
