I've been doing a lot of research on castration drugs both on the forum and else where and I've decided to try depot provera in about 2 weeks. I'm 35 and dealing daily with an overactive libido problem. I'm not looking for a total "T" shut down and I would like to keep some level of penis function. Even if that means just a partial erection once in a while just as long as my sex drive is gone.

I looked at depot lupron which was too expensive and results in a total shutdown, and androcur tabs. I decided against androcur because I'm terrible with taking pills and I was concerned about it being too strong. What I could find on this board about depot provera seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm going to take the madscientist1 guys recommendation and start with 2 injections of 150 mg, followed by 1 injection per month after that.

Since the effects seems to build up over a few months I'll have plenty of time to adjust to them vs. going the other route with those other medications. I've been considering this option now for about a year and I've informed myself about the effects. The only things that concern me at the moment are hot flashes and fatigue, and so far I haven't read anything about DP causing hot flashes. I'm expecting some decreased energy but I haven't read too many complaints about it on the board. Weight gain isn't an issue since I'm a little heavy already and a few more pounds won't make very much of a difference.

Well that's about it, I'll post about how things go once I get started. Any advice would be definitely appreciated.

No matter what drug you use to reduce your male hormones you will get hot flashes to some degree. Getting more fatigue and less energy is a factor of lower testosterone and not the drug. It seems that the people that start out a little over weight will put on more weight.

Bobby, from what I've read it seems that Androcur increases fatigue over what was caused by low testosterone. Some people have lowered their dosage and felt better without an increase in testosterone taking place, at least that's what I can gather from their posts.

My main concern is getting scorching hot flashes that turn my face red and make me sweat. I haven't heard of anyone experiencing that on DP from searching the forum. I wonder if it's because DP is an actual hormone and because of that it acts differently than other drugs?

Have you heard of anyone complaining about hot flashes on DP?
