Psychatrist help?

It is often recommended in the forum - and required by most doctors - that a pschatrist is consulted before surgical castration.

I would be interested in your experience, how often the psychatrists work has helped to actually "cure" the patient from his desire to be castrated. I know that this is tricky to ask here, because most of these patients will not visit the EA anymore. But does anybody of you know of earlier forum members who have lost their desire (without being castrated!) or have data from psychatrists about this issue?

Regards,

Merlin

I admit that I have mental issues and I am castrated. I probably would have never sought castration if I did not have mental issues. Or to say it differently, if thought straight, I likely would have not sought castration.. But now that I am castated, I like it.

I'm sure that many men accuire a fixation on castration which in combination with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can lead to regret if castration is carried out.

I'm sure there are also some with a deep seated self loating due to their minority sexual orientation in a society that is not very accepting rusulting in a desire to "desex" themselves. I'm sure most shrinks would have a field day with someone who wants to get nutted.

If someone does 6-12 months of chemical castration and still wants to get cut, I don't see why it would be a problem as that would weed out most fetishist.

I think you have the impression that anyone who would seek an Orchiectomy is "insane"

Why doctors ask that a person get a mental health evaluation (not treatment for a "cure") is that they want to be sure the person they operate on is of sound mind and can consent to having this done. Now if a person were to show up at a doctors office saying he wants to have his balls removed so he can travel to the UFO peoples planet? THAT is a different thing indeed and I can't imagine any doctor agreeing to do this kind of surgery in that kind of case.

I had mine done for pretty simple reasons (Chronic pains / non functional testes) and still was asked to go through an eval. I went in a couple times (Once was just a long test) and was declared sane (Much to my surprise)

There was no attempt to "cure" my desire to have my bits removed or to have new prosthetics put in. In fact the shrink told me that he thought this was perfectly reasonable and said that he had seen a TV show where a man was in a similar situation and the main point discussed was how large would the implants be and how did I think that would affect my "body image"

The answer then (and now) was that it would be a very positive experience and it was!

Personally my first reaction to being asked to have this sanity check was "Do I HAVE to tell someone else about this?" After it was done I felt relieved it was over and thought it was of significant value to go over this with a 3rd party and have it affirmed that I was not a "nut" :D

Hi MRT,

just to avoid giving a wrong impression: I am pretty close to actively seeking castration myself - and I absolutely do not feel being insane. I have even discussed my ideation with my wife already and honestly believe, it is a question of time for me taking the next step.

My question came up while reading the fantastic work of Jesus and his colleague in which is stated, that "on average, the wannabes were two years younger than the mean age at which eunuchs were castrated (40). This suggests that given enough time, a certain percentage of them will go ahead and get themselves castrated."

Having castration ideations since my puberty, I can't imagine that any psychatrist could change that attitude of me. Probably, because I don't even want to be "cured" like that.

I will for sure not know it exactly before I consulted a psychatrist myself.

Hence, I am interested in experiences that both, the castrated and the non-castrated men have made in psychatrist consultataions.
