A little known fact....
The first testicular guard "Cup" was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974.
It took 100 years for men to realize that the brain is also important.

Well, if you're a hockey player, it's definitely balls before brains. I'm not sure that they need brains at all......

whenever you play hockey you ALWAYS put on your cup first, even before your skates!! first thing that goes on and last thing that cums off

Actually, the first hockey player to wear a helmet on a regular basis was Charlie Burns. He wore one from 1954 on as he had sustained a serious head injury in juniors. He played 749 games in the NHL, all wearing a helmet. I do like the concept, of the OP, though.
