To save wasting black ink, how can I avoid printing the black banner on a bus timetable?
Example:
http://www.ceredigion.gov.uk/utilities/ ... ediaid=983
I can select the text, but can't work out how to transfer it, so I can print only what I want.
Well, HP ink doesn't grow on trees!:(

Re: PDF printing question
Are you going to or from Aberystwyth? I’ve never ridden a bus there, but within the city everything seems to be a reasonable walk from the train station. A beautiful place to spend a few summer days….
For your question, what you need is a screen capture utility. With it, you select with your mouse just that rectangular part of the screen that you would like to print, make a copy of it, and then print the copy. You can easily leave off headers and footers or any other section that is not useful.
For my Macintosh, I have long used the FREE utility CaptureMe. It’s simple and can even capture short video clips to store for replay. It’s also simple to paste the copied piece into another document.

While I don’t own a PC, a quick check of Google found several free screen capture utilities. You’ll need to review them on your own. Or, possibly, someone else here can comment on which one(s) work best. The first one up in the Google search was

Re: PDF printing question
Thanks for the info. I suppose that as PDFs are intended for printing as they are, it didn't occur to the webmaster to create a printer-owner friendly version.
Aberystwyth is a compact town, but getting to and from it can be a long job, with several changes of bus, not to mention that some services in Wales are few and far between, and only on certain times of the week or month. But I love living here nonetheless.

Re: PDF printing question
I guess a $400 copy of the full versin of Adobe Acrobat would be out of the question if you are trying to save a little ink?
I can use mine and cut and paste what you want into a text file if that helps, then email it to you.

$400? Damn! I got my full version for free. But then again I bought the $1,500 full version of Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Re: PDF printing question
I have the Adobe CS3. I must have a good play with it, to see what I can do. Thanks.

Re: PDF printing question
Step 1. Open up the file on Acrobat Reader
Step 2. Under Edit you will see a line Copy File to Clip Board Click on it
Step 3. Open Word, right click on the cursor and then click Paste
you will have the original document in editable Word form if it was originally a Word document
If this doesn't work you can try the following:
1. Open up the file in Acrobat Reader
2. Be sure that the text/or whatever you want to print out is on the screen (you may have to reduce the magnification (+ and - buttons at the top) to get it all on one screen
3 Hit PrnScn button on your keyboard which takes a picture of what is showing on the screen
4. Open up Word and hit Paste as previously and the image will appear on the page as an omported picture. You can then trim off the bits you don't want and size the remainder to fit the page using Word's picture editing controls
I hope this helps. However IMHO I think that it is easier to just put up with the ink usage but over to you
Good luck with it

Re: PDF printing question
Go to http://www.acrobat.com and you can get a free beta version of Acrobat for online use. This may not be the same as Acrobat Pro 9, sold as a standalone, but the most important features are there.
