Hello,

I have a question:

I know that being overweight or obese puts you at a higher risk for certain cancers, but does being underweight or malnourished put you at a higher risk of developing certain kinds of cancer as well?

Thanks!

Malnourishment puts you at risk for many health problems. Demanding that your body go without proper nourishment can cause body dysphoric issues. People actually get to where they see themselves as being fat when that are not.

The easiest way to explain this is that they 'see' when they look into a mirror an image that a distorted mirror image would give them making them 'see' that they are fat when they are not.

So, you develop psychological problems, depression, paranoia, bi-polar disorders, decrease in mental acuity, general brain chemistry issues, hair brittleness and thinning, hypotension, orthostatic hypotension which causes you to faint if you stand up too quickly from sitting or laying down, vertigo, bradycardia, general electrolytic imbalances that can cause cardiac arrythmias, tachycardiac episodes that lead into fibrilation and cardiac arrest resulting in sudden death (google Karen Carpenter), anemia and general blood disorders, weak muscles, swollen joints, bone loss, general body chemistry issues that cause renal insufficiency and/or renal shutdown, constipation, bloating, in women hormonal changes that cause amenorrhea, (that's loss of menstrual cycle) fertility issues, increases in miscarriage rates, low birthweight babies, increases in birth defects, increased C-section risks, increased risk of postpartum depression, thinning of skin, increases in bruising, drying of the skin, body temperature problems, yellow skin and brittle nails.

Of course, morbid obesity has risks also, but one who asks about malnutrition need not worry about that.

If you think that you are malnourished, you can already have cancer which is a disease that causes weight loss in many cases.

Please seek medical help if you think that you are not at the average body weight for your height. The list of problems caused by malnourishment I gave you is not an exhaustive list and other life-threatening medical problems can develop.

O.K.?

(P.S. I don't really smoke, either) ;)

Then again, rats raised on calorie restricted diets live longer then ones raised on calorie rich diets and all the body mass that goes with it.

Same with people.

No malnourishment invoked. All vitamins and essential nutrients covered.

Under such conditions, a body seems less likely to develop heart disease, cancers, and of course Diabetes.

Remember we are talking populations, not individuals.

In my opinion unless you are perfect you're going to have health risks of some kind or another. So why worry about the ones you can't do anything about (i.e. genes). If you're overweight then go on a diet and exercise, same can be done if you're underweight. By definition diet is just your usually eating habits. Sorry i think i got off topic, lol, anyways if you feel like something is wrong or you're concerned then just go to the doctors.
