Somehow, somewhere in here I kind of picked up that some surprising things like saw palmetto that people tend to think of as something for prostate health are actually low grade chemical castrators. There has been a flurry news this week about medical advice to take finasteride or proscar as a cancer preventative. Are those to some degree equivalent to chemical castration?

It is thought by many that taking saw palmetto will help with prostrate problems. It will reduce the size of the prostrate and improve urine flow. Some say it will lower some male hormone a little. There is also much medical research saying the reduction of male hormone changes are far over rated with saw palmetto. You would have to take far too much to be a safe amount to take for a major reduction. Finasteride is proscar is the same thing. They are medical drugs that effect the prostrate. They work on the male hormone and are used to reduce the size of the prostrate to improve the flow of urine in guys with enlarged prostrate.
Reducing the male hormones may lessen the chance of prostrate cancer. The normal dose of proscar just lowers it some. It does not work on all of the male hormone parts. So it may only lessen the chance some.
