Firefox won't open Adobe pdf files

Post by Kortpeel (imported) »

My version of Firefox updated itself and now it won't open Adobe pdf files.

Previously it did so automatically.

It tells me that there is an Adobe plug in to overcome this but when I get to the Adobe plug in site I do not know which one to download. All this bloody jargon is mostly meaningless to me.

Can anyone help?

It's Adobe reader 9, whatever the latest version of Firefox is, running on Windows XP.

I have FF306 and Adobe Reader 8.

I'll get 9 installed and get back with you later today.

The problem is undoubtedly more with the Adobe software than with your browser, whichever one you're using.

I use FoxIt Reader for working with PDF files, and much prefer it because it uses much less in terms of computer resources, and doesn't have all the security holes that are found in Adobe Reader. It works great with Opera, and also with the lesser browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome, and FireFox.

If you're interested, the software can be downloaded from here:

http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Just click the "Free Download" button to get started.

If you're satisfied with FoxIt, you should use the Add/Remove applet in Control Panel to uninstall Adobe Reader, which will remove one more security threat from your computer.

I have the FF addon called PDF Download. Got it from Mozilla.

The whole deal works fine for me. Always has.
