EA and cookies

Some time ago my computer was crippled by stuff. I learned that I had an outdated AVG. The updated AVG is sort of interesting. I have been messing around with it trying different stuff. One is to disconnect from the internet, clean the computer, re-connect and go to

Yahoo, MSN or Google, then disconnect and run AVG to see what I get just from going there. It turns out AVG finds nothing when I go to Ask.com. However, if I disconnect, clean the computer, re-connect to the internet, go to Ask.com then to the EA, sign in, sign back out where you get the message that all coookies have been cleared, disconnect from the internet and run AVG, I get:

Ad.yieldmanager[2].txt

Ad.yieldmanager[2].txt:\ad.yieldmanager.com.539b0606

Ad.yieldmanager[2].txt:\ad.yieldmanager.com.557bf2b0

Any comments anybody?

PS This was not one of those superscientific exercises where I repeated everything three times. That would be too much trouble for what is probably a minor thing.

I'd suggest trying two different variations.

1) Go to ask.com, do the normal search for the EA (at least I assume you search for the EA on Ask, then come here), but don't click the link to come here. Close the browser. Then see what you have.

2) Clean everything, fire up the browser and come straight here, without using Ask, Google, or any of those. Just type: www.eunuch.org straight into the address bar.

Looking at Ask, I suspect those cookies have something to do with their sponsored results. At the very least, the EA has no advertising, and to the best of my knowledge places no cookies from advertising companies on your computer.

EA does NOT set ad cookies.

It never has.

Thank you for the EA no ad cookies policy. Does the Archive place any cookies of its own? I am set Firefox to delete personal data upon closing, but I am still concerned about leaving traces should my computer ever be stolen.

When you log in and check the box to remember your user name and pass word then that will be left on your computer as a cookie

But other than that after you log out that cookie is deleted

Of course if you log in and out and don't ask your PC to remember your password at all (and do it manually each time), then Firefox will have removed any site details when you ask it to clear your cookies and history when you close down. So, no problems about other people checking out on your history from your PC.

Thanks for all the feedback. For me it is more a curiosity, but I know there are people that do worry more about this kind of thing.
