Do dogs have any testosterone after they are castrated?

Post by notalife (imported) »

I am trying to understand why I feel like hell and why dogs seem to feel ok after they are castrated, is it some psychological thing, where as I see myself comparing myself to other guys and see that I am on the bottom of the food chain? I feel almost at a peace and contentment here in my apartment but when I leave is when I get angry and miserable

Is the reason dogs sleep so much is because they have no testosterone?

Would think a dog would be like a human where the adrenal gland makes some testosterone. Yes a castrated male still has some testosterone being made in the body.

notalife I read your post earlier but did not have time to respond. I did not find it dumb. I think I understand the comparisons you were trying to make. My first thought to your posts was that we are more complicated than dogs. I as a eunuch can remeber having testicles and how I felt. Dogs operate from instinct and can easily adopt to the change. I do not feel like I have had energy loss when it comes to something I want to do. If it is something I do not want to do I could easily curl up and take a nap.

I wish I could remeber your post completely because I thought it could create some good responses. Sorry I did not respond sooner and I do not have a better memory.

I restored the post after reviewing it. Good post. Not dumb.

I dont know that anyone has ever researched a comparison, or if they have, I am not aware of it. Much castration research has been done on sheep, pigs, goats, horses, etc. Whether energy levels have been studied, again I am unaware. A little reading along that line might be interesting.

Personally, when I go for extended periods of time (lapses in insurance coverage) without HRT, I rarely feel any decline in energy, and no one reports bad mood on my part (believe me, they WILL get in my face around here). Of course, I am also a very physically active person.

I suspect that a very great deal of the issue is indeed psychological. I would strongly recommend, based upon your several posts, that you find a counselor or therapist soon. You really need to work through these issues of loss and self-depreciation. This along with a need to get over your attitude regarding use of endogenous testosterone. If it makes life better, then use it.

This is, I'm afraid, idle curiosity: what benefits do you get from the HRT?

Matthew

Erective capacity, better general health. My thing has never been about being anti-testosterone.... I'm not. I have gone prolonged periods without, deliberately, so I know what it is like. I don't mind some of the effects, but others I do. The arthritic-like joint pain was the worst....

I'm sure dogs are like people, each one reacts differently.

I have seen many dogs before and after.

Some you'd never guess had been cut, others just seem to fatten up and lay around.

I had an intact dog that would just lay around. We called him "The Rug That Eats". So that may be a trait unrelated to castration. --FLO--
