What will recovery be like?

I will be having orchiectomy with scrotum removal with Dr Kimmel. Could I have some info from people who have undergone the same procedure with Dr Kimmel?
How long to be pain free?
How long must I use dressings on the wound?
How long before I can take a shower?
How long before I can take a bath?
How long before I can drive a car?
How long before I can walk a mile?
How long before I can ride a bike?
How long before it is no longer obvious to others that I have had surgery (from the way I walk, etc)?

All depends on what you call pain free. There will be post op pain that will last for some time. The most discomfort will be over in less then 2 weeks. Everyone heals different. Some have pain that last for years and others seem to have almost none in a month.

How long must I use dressings on the wound?
All depends on how you heal. With the scrotum being removed your healing time will be longer. Bandages may be on for a month or so.
You should be able to take a shower in a few days. Just let the water run over the area a little. Do not wash it or soak it.
How long before I can take a bath?
Once the incision is healed you should be able to take a bath with no problems.
You could drive the next day. But it would be wise to rest for several days doing little. Some talking is good.
How long before I can walk a mile?
All depends on how you are feeling. You could do that in a few days.
How long before I can ride a bike?
Would wait for a while till all the scabs are gone. If any pain stop at once. You have area's inside that are still healing so take care.

Think you should be OK in a week or less if like most.
Answers are in bold in your post.
Giving a real time table is impossible. Every one is different. If you over do it once the whole healing time table can be changed. Let your body tell you when you are doing too much. Better to be safe the sorry.
Wish you the very best and fast recovery

I'm at day 17 and the stitches will be coming out in a matter of hours. Not much pain, but the stitches have been a real nuisance! Also have had to wear feminine hygene pads for leakage protection/drainage from the wound. Scrotal removal will mean more of this sort of thing and lots of inconvenience for a longer time. I vote AGAINST scrotum removal for this reason.
You really should not travel for at least 3 or 4 days after the operation. And you must keep off your feet and keep an ice pack on the wounds for at least 2-days. You should have a travel companion with you to help as getting up and down out of bed is difficult. Meals should be via room service or your companion should bring carry outs to you.
No driving for at least a few weeks or until the stitches are gone. Same for long walks or other strenuous exercise. I plan to wait at least a month.
Dr. Kimmel can answer most of your questions, but you should take written notes if possible as his prepared paper about aftercare is incomplete at best.
You will only need minor pain killers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen to control the pain. Plan to have a goodly supply of 10cm square gauze pads and/or feminine hygiene pads along with a supporter (Kimmel may supply the supporter). Kimmel also supplies the Cipro antibiotics that you will need to take.
No showers until after 3 or 4 days. Then be careful not to infect the wound. Use sterile pads only for washing the area and drying it. (4" square -10 Cm pads) A box of 25 costs about $7.00 and you will need several boxes.
No baths until the stitches are gone and the wound is fully healed.
I really miss my hot tub!!!!

Recovery will be like getting back the value of your 401-K before you know who took off to Switzerland with it...

I read that a person who wishes to have a vaginoplasty it was inadvisable to be castrated because after castration the scrotum shrinks and there is enough skin to make the vagina and the outer labia.
This is even more true if the scrotum is also removed during the castration.
What is it exactly?
